The Hotel Grano de Oro is a beautiful building and although our room was a bit small, it had its own private patio with foutain that was wonderful! It was clean, the shower was good sized and the service was excellent! No breakfast offered. I enjoyed my dinner but my husband was disappointed with his sea bass. Still, it was... More

This is really beautiful hotel in the city. Super clean and very professional staff. The restaurant there is also excellent. We had dinner and breakfast. It is a little pricey but worth it. The only thing that is a little tricky is there is not much to do around the hotel. Also, there is a roof top jacuzzi that is... More

The hotel is very nice, but if you can skip San Jose - do so. There is NOTHING to do. I thought we would be able to walk around and visit stores and have dinner. Boy, was I wrong. We walked up the boulevard and it is just filled with junk type discount stores. We ended up eating at Wendy's... More

We are pleased you felt the hotel was nice but very disappointed that you felt there was nothing to do in San Jose. We wish you would have asked! To start off we recommend the popular ‘Barrio Bird Walking Tour’ which really doesn’t have anything to do with birds but will introduce you, in two hours, to the true, vibrant... More

The great thing about the Hotel Grano de Oro is that most of us have heard not to spend that much time in San Jose, that there isn't much to see, etc. So when you pull up to HGO, you feel that you found a gem because it's such a wonderful hotel with tons of character. We stayed one night... More

We have been to San Jose in 1996, 1998 and again this year. Each time we have stayed at Hotel Grano de Oro and although it has changed over the years, it still has the feel of a small luxury hotel with wonderful, friendly staff. The rooms are updated and very comfortable. The restaurant, while expensive, is fair value for... More

Thank you for your continued support and for your kind comments regarding our wonderful and friendly staff. We agree that they are indeed a wonderful group of people and we are very proud of each and every one of them and it is so nice to hear that you feel they are still the same as they were 14 years... We started and ended our stay in Costa Rica here - and were very satisfied. The standard room was really nice and comfortable - great value. The ambiance of the whole place was lovely and relaxing, the staff and service excellent. Short walk to the Art Museum, which was probably the highlight of San Jose (other than the hotel). More

My husband and I spent two nights here on our trip to Costa Rica. The first and the last night before traveling back to the states. I loved both our standard which I booked since we would only be in it about 12 hours and our deluxe room. Charming is probably the best word to describe it. We will always... More

We stayed three nights in a Deluxe room in January, 2012. The service, room (including bed), food and furnishings/decor, were all excellent. This is a very nice boutique hotel I'd unhesitatingly recommend. I found the hotel on TripAdvisor (thankyouthankyou) and it exceeded my expectations in every way. More

This hotel was recommended to us by the company which designed our tour package. It is located in downtown San Jose and it is certainly the hotel of choice for the downtown of San Jose itself, although there may be other hotels in the suburbs of San Jose which may have advantages lacking in the Grano de Oro, specifically spacious... We fell in love with this hotel at first sight of the foyer! It is an eclectic mix which somehow works to give it an unique charm and style. Obviously an amalgam of different buildings, its corridors meander at unlikely points while stairways sprout unexpectedly to take you to what should by logic be a downstairs room. Getting hopelessly lost... More
