- Vesuvio Hotel San Jose

We stayed here prior to a group tour and found the hotel to be simple, clean and have friendly staff. Any thing going on in the halls and next rooms could be easily heard at night.
We stayed here when the hotel we wanted to stay was booked. The room was decent size with a king bed. It had an rank smell. The bathroom smelled like sewer. The people were helpful and friendly. The terrace was a great place to sit and meet other travelers. The ¨breakfast¨ was a piece of toast, banana and coffee. Would...

Thank you for your comments, they are really important for us to improve our service. We are working hard to resolve the problem with the noise. I hope that you stay with us in your next trip to Costa Rica.

Reception staff - mostly business-like but not friendly. Basic hotel. Has a little restaurant at the side for breakfast/evening meals - the chef is the kindest man (and very friendly). Guests appear to be allowed to take prostitutes back to their rooms and the staff don't seem bothered. I have no issues with this except when I have an early...

Rooms are small, bathrooms very small, there was a stain on one of the sheets (although it had certainly been laundered), but for the price it was really just fine. What noise there is comes from the street, not the other rooms. Bring earplugs--it's near a railroad line. The breakfast is fruit, toast, juice, and coffee, and if you want...

I haven’t stayed at Hotel Vesuvio, my youngest daughter did and I need to share my experience dealing with them.
I needed to change my daughter’s airport transfer in San Jose, as she had missed her connection in Miami, due to airline delay.
As she had had a frightening encounter with a bag snatcher in Guatemala, she didn’t want to...

While many comments in previous reviews certainly still have merit, my stay went well with no major complaints of the deal-breaker variety. As often happens in the lower-midrange category (would rate this 1.5 to 2-star), a lot depends on what you paid. In my case it was $124.30 all-in for a 3-night booking, BUT because it was via the Entertainment/hotels.com...

stayed there for 3 nights and couldn't sleep because of the noise. the walls are partitions, not proper walls. there is no natural light in the room. the only tiny window gives onto a wall! if you want to shower, make sure you do it when no one else is having a shower in the hotel. I had to wait...

Dark, dingy, airless rooms. and a breakfast that barely deserved the name. This is the sort of Hotel that gives the star rating system a bad name. 3 stars??
We stayed here for 3 nights in total on two separate occasions, and really wished we hadn't.
The list of faults the we and our fellow travellers experienced would take too...

The breakfast was neither fresh nor any good. And the walls were paper thin.
What was most bad with this hotel, was when we woke up in the middle of the night with blood-sucking insects in our bed and bites all over our body. When we showed the bloody sheet to the staff and told them we wanted a new...
