As we stayed here on a group tour (only 12 of us) we can't comment on the value, but the cabins with the veranda, hammocks and chairs were very pleasant and breakfast good. The fridge is useful if a little noisy. We stayed on the garden side, but the walk to the beach was just across the road. There is... more

When did Costa Rica get so expensive? or is the dollar just that worthless. sigh. Anyway, this place is adequate but for the price, it's advisable to be on the beach side...yes, it's under $100 but just barely. The fridge was either in the bathroom or as a nightstand and yes nice to have but does it have to be... more

Our trip to the east coast of Costa Rica was our main reason for traveling this summer. We wanted to scuba dive and see what the caribean side had to offer, because there is very little information about that area on line. We were very lucky to find Escape Caribeno which is run by an Italian couple. It is a... more

I stayed here four years ago and returned because of the location -- close to everything including the seashore -- and memories of relaxing in the hammock. Each room has a small patio, and Escape Caribeno is noteworthy because of the fridge in each room, stocked with a variety of drinks, including Imperial and Pilsen beers ($2/each). I sprung for... more

I had stayed there once before a few years back and the owners, Gloria and Mauro, are always welcoming, generous and full of community information so I decided to call them again. The room was new, pretty, large, clean, with easily adjustable temp A/C and had a little porch area with a wonderful hammock facing the ocean! The weather was... more

I booked myself to stay 3 nights at the Escape Caribeno, but ended up staying only 2 due to personal reasons. It was a nice enough place about a 10 minute walk outside of town, fairly quiet, but nothing to write home about. The grounds outside were probably nicer than the actual units, and you can often spot birds feeding... more

We stayed at this hotel just after Christmas and it was very clean and quiet. Our room was the same as the pictures shown by ColoradoJay below. Not too much new to say other than the A/C worked great, the tall ceilings in the cabin were excellent, and thanks to the minibar we were able to store some things for... more

Escape Caribeno is a very peaceful place in the lively small town of Puerto Viejo. It has a tropical garden with small cabins on one side of the road and beach front cabins with A/C on the other side. We stayed in the beach front cabin. It was very clean and nice, with a colorful bathroom and hammocks, very relaxing!... more

We spent two night at the Escape Caribeno last month and it was a wonderful experience. Escape Caribeno is just slightly outside of "central" Puerto Viejo--within walking distance but quieter. There are cabinas on both sides of the road. We stayed in the brick duplex, which was elegantly decorated with a gorgeous tiled bathroom, and was on the "ocean" side... more

I stayed at the Hotel Escape Caribeno for two days in early June. I was greeted by the owner Mauro and escorted to my room. Mauro gave me a quick tour of the bungalow, gave me the keys and was gone. He is a nice guy and will answer any questions but will basically leave you alone unless you need... more
