In our opinion, the owner favors guests who are not American, even if you're an experienced traveler and don't exhibit any "ugly American" qualities. He seats Americans together at meals and pretty much ignores them during your stay. Seems to create a self-fulfilling feedback loop: treat certain guests with contempt, guests complain, attitude hardens so treats certain guests with contempt.... More

When the sun broke through the rain, fog, and mist, we imediately drove to the rim of the crater...awesome! The gorgeous blue water was mesmerizingly beautiful. The Loge itself is owner, Michael, has been in Costa Rica for 40 years, originally from England. He is a lovely host, and very active in the community. When the earthquake struck the area... More

This place must be fantastic when the weather is too. This is part of a farm, you are in the green, between cows. We read books in front of the fire instead of doing hikes in the surroundings as it was storming awfully outside. Unfortunatelly, we did not have a car, so we were stuck. The mainhouse is spectaculary built... More

We stayed three days at the Poas Volcano Lodge in the older rooms, The room was a bit small, but bed was confortable. No Chairs or any Coat hooks in Room to hang your stuff. The Breakfast was really good. Loved the home made foods. Wouls recomend to eat dinner at the cafe just a mile from lodge. More

Poas was enshrouded in clouds but the Poas Volcan Lodge was warm and wonderful. Gorgeously appointed common areas, very comfortable room and bathroom. Complete with heater and humidifier for coping with even the wettest evening (which we definitely had). The food and overall ambience was terrific. More

We stayed here on the 1st & 2nd of December at the end of our holiday in Costa Rica. The weather was awful – very cold and wet – but the lodge was the perfect place to stay in such conditions, with wood-burning stoves and a shower with plenty of hot water. We stayed in the suite, which was an... More

My son and I spent 18 days in CR. We spent a night at the Lodge, and talked with Michael, the owner about his travels in Central America, and CR. I wish we could have stayed longer. Next time we will. Staff very helpful, and friendly. More

This place is located on a working dairy farm with beautiful vistas. The room was very clean although the cool nights might be better served with some type of central heating. The food and service was top notch and the owner very personable. It was a pleasure to meet his family and friends during his New Year's Eve party. My... More

Rooms are gorgeous, location is beautiful, breakfast is delicious, lodge personnel are helpful and very friendly. The owner is a delight to talk to, with lots of stories to share! Stayed here during Christmas vacation to Costa Rica. Family of 5 (3 adult children). More
