We stayed here for 3 nights in May 2012 as part of a Viking River Cruise tour. The hotel itself is everything you would expect a 5 star Ritz Carlton to be, as far as the rooms and amenities are concerned. If all you see is this hotel, you have not seen Shanghai. Very comfortable and great for a business trip but no Asian flavor. Staff was very business-like. The concierge was not very helpful - not typical for a Ritz. Location in high end shopping area... comfortable but sterile.
