My husband and I had terrible experience staying here being our first time in India. We had 3 nights reservation, but ended staying only one night for the following reasons 1) ) My husband and I arrived around 4PM on Nov. 30,2019. The old man outside the gate, perhaps the guard, told us to go top floor, his finger pointing at the house. He never told us what level top floor is. He never asked for our names to see if we were the expected guests! We had 2 very heavy luggages and quite scared to carry them on the stairs not knowing what floor we were supposed to go to. I sent my husband upstairs, but he couldn't find anybody anywhere. So I went outside again to ask the old man what’s going on and where is somebody to talk to check in. The man across the street heard my frustration and talked to the old man pointing his finger upstairs. I don't know what he said, but somebody came downstairs finally and took us to our room. (Our room by the way was on the same floor as kitchen and dining. our designated room was right next to the kitchen that between 2-3 in the morning we heard loud talking and laughing in the kitchen/dining area). 2) The very worst thing was the toxic fume that greeted us downstairs all the way to the level we were on. The man who took our information said that it is camphor! We know what camphor smells like! This is very toxic smell of a solvent or paint thinner or something. My husband’s eyes were burning and when I went down to check the source of it(very bottom floor) I hurriedly left to go back to my room as I felt like suffocated and I was having heart palpitation from the toxic smell. My husband won’t stay in the room and had to stay on the balcony due to burning eyes. Finally, George came after about half an hour later and we told him our concern about the toxic fume coming strongly from downstairs and how my husband and I were distressed about it that we wanted to check out! He mentioned about people downstairs using paint thinner. Somehow he probably had the people stop what they were doing downstairs as the fume eventually dissipated. 3) Also when we opened the bedroom.we were greeted with what I would describe cigarette smoke smell. The guy said it was camphor again! I cannot believe it is camphor. If it was incense then sorry, it smelled like cigarette smoke. We do light incense at home, but it never smells like this one! 4) We ended up staying for the night with the smell gone, but not having a guarantee that the smell will not return the following day, we decided to check out. I asked George and the other guy to call the owner as I want to talk to her about our situation. I had them call her the day prior also when we were drowning in the toxic fume to tell her our situation, but she never answered the call apparently. She never called back either to our knowledge. I emailed her to ask if there is penalty for checking out early. She replied by saying that we have to pay the rest of the days reserved. So, I emailed her back and told her the reasons why we were checking out early, the experience that I just mentioned above. I also told her that I will dispute the charges with my credit card company. 5) A friend our ours in Delhi managed to talk to her on the phone about our complaints. She told our friend that there was no such smell. How could she smell it when she was not physically there to witness it? She wouldn't even answer her employee's call! Needless to say, we checked out early. I booked this place because of the good reviews I saw, but for being in India for the first time in my life, this was a very, very, bad experience in this place. As to the place, I can hardly remember a very good thing to say about it due to the traumatic experience except that the room color was good, but the table or any surface available as a table top is occupied by decorations of statues and it us feel we were in an antiques shop. We had trouble finding a spot to put our belongings due to the displays on the table. The TV does not work well. Roger helped us, but we were not successful how to make it work. The remaining 2 nights we were charged is currently under dispute.…
