This is cool, unique place to chill out for a couple of days. If coming from Granada - having to take a couple of buses, a ferry across the lake, another bus on the island, a possible hitchhike, then a short hike to this hotel will make it a memorable trip getting here. We were here in the rainy season,... More

I come to Finca Magdalena, Balgue, Ometepe Is. several times a year. It's a former commune style coffee ranch from the communist days, and today it's a cooperative. It sits above the road on the flanks of Volcano Madera, just below the rain forest. Its a very spacious plantation with large old, wood buildings. They mostly produce coffee, which you... More

Yikes, no bed bugs for us! We stayed in spartan but clean private rooms for $11 each. I went here with my two young adult children. They hiked the volcano while I got a guided tour of the nearby petroglyphs ($5). Howler monkeys within sight of the porch. The most beautiful place I visited in Nica.

You've gotta go here. It's paradise. I may have gotten bedbugs, but I don't really care. The coffee tour was fascinating. The guide was informative. The coffee itself was out of this world. Do not hesitate to go to Finca Magdalena. But bring your own sheets.

If you need a very confortable place with western comfort and food, don't go to Finca Magdalena, go to an American resort on Santo Domingo Playa. If you're looking for real holidays in paradise, just get lost in the vegetation and stay at La Finca. There's no hot water, no Internet, no air conditionned, but there are : an amazing... More

The last review was accurate although we stayed in a matrimonial room upstairs where the mattress was sprung and comfortable. Having a peek in the other rooms i would agree though as some dorm beds were camp bed style! Our first night was great - few people which made us think how such a big place could survive. The second... More

An old farmhouse at the base of the smaller volcano with an amazing view from it's deck of the larger volcano on Ometepe. Truely beautiful surroundings, but the farmhouse just doesn't offer enough to justify more than a night. My girlfriend and I camped on the deck for next to nothing (about $3) and having a peek into the rooms,... More

I have stayed at this lodge many times with groups ranging from just a couple to 15. Amiable service and decent food for the price. Very nice location for those traveling on budget. Beautiful sunset and accessible / convenient trail for those who want to tackle the Maderas Volcano

Cooperative farm in Nicaragua. There are not very many places to eat localy in the island. Service could improve but it is a farm so who cares for that price! Go up the volcano, it is amasing!
