I last visited the Outspan Hotel 30 years ago when living in Nairobi. I always enjoyed going there then because I was guaranteed good food and excellent service, plus breathtaking views of Mount Kenya. I also enjoyed the lovely garden where Baden Powell lived during his last years. I stopped off there this time, 30 years later, en route to... More

The Outspan is a good hotel with great features, including the home for the last couple of years of his life, of Baden Powell, the founder of the world wide scout movement. During a previous visit, we stayed in his bedroom! We have stayed several times and like this hotel. At lunchtime it can get busy with diners waiting to... More

Arrived here after our flight from Heathrow and then the 4 hour drive from Nairobi at the start of our 7 day safari. Welcomed with cold towels. The place looked very colonial. The rooms were very large but some distance from the main building. The showers were very poor, they flooded out in to the rest of the bathroom. Restaurant service... More

We stayed at the Outspan on New Years Eve 2012. After travelling many hours to arrive at the hotel on the first day of our safari we were very much looking forwards to a swim in the pool. This wasn't to be as on arrival we were informed that it was closed as they were preparing the New Years Eve Celebrations... If you want to feel like Karen Blixen on her African Farm, this place will do it. The rooms are huge, with fireplaces and a sitting area. Ours had double doors opening straight out to the view of Mount Kenya. Stunning! The pool area is nothing much, but a place to cool down. The dinner is mediocre, but it is... More

Dear Guest, your review on trip advisor is appreciated. Outspan is reminiscent of the old in very many ways. Though we plan to refurbish the property, the old charm will remain. As for meals, the chef has improved Sherry items and introduced a new menu at The Tavern. We hope your travels will bring you back to Outspan someday. More

While on a day-trip in Nyeri, we decided to stop here for lunch. After entering, we felt that the hotel was actually quite safe. Immediately after entering the hotel, we were greeted, we told them we wanted to go have lunch and they replied in a friendly tone. After reaching a lunch area, we noticed that it was for staying... We stayed here for the first night of our safari. Whilst the accommodation is simple and a little tired it was perfectly adequate. The food was buffet for lunch with plenty of choice and a la carte for the evening, which again was fairly simple but well done. The grounds were lovely, and the staff very pleasant.

Stayed at the Outspan at the start of a week long safari with Somak holidays. The hotel although in a lovely location was tired and more than a little shabby. The weather was cold and damp during our stay and our room was so cold I could not even take off my coat. Our room did not have a fireplace... More

Beautiful grounds, delicious and plentiful lunch. We didn't go, but you can visit the local Kikuyu village, and/or the museum dedicated to Lord Baden-Powell The coach trip up to Treetops was an unpleasant experience. The coaches have seats which fold down into the aisle - if possible do not use these. They have no seat belt, and no back support.

Always a pleasure to receive guest feedback. One of the transfer vehicle was away for service but is now back to the lodg and guest have a comfortable ride to Treetops. Self drive is now allowed to Treetops and guest can use own vehicle to the lodge as long as they enter the park before 6.00pm. Thank you. More

This was the first overnight stop on our 7 night safari. We arrived at lunchtime after a long flight from London and a long journey in the safari van.
