Having arrived in Tabo Cottages after a long journey we were greeted by one of the owners who was possible one of the rudest people we have met on our travels. We had some issues with our booking which he was not interested in speaking to us about, His reply was `we have one room left,` ie take or leave... more
After a long overland flog around Asia, Tabo Cottages were an excellent choice for a breather. Annette, the German co-owner and her Indonesian husband, were charming hosts and the local staff, despite an erratic command of English, were eager to please and consistently helpful and friendly. Much more expensive than other, simpler options, we stayed here because of the great vegetarian restaurant and the "jungle" bathroom, plus the size and cleanliness of the room. Unfortunately over three days there was no hot water when we wanted it and the staff seemed unwilling to resolve this or keep us up to speed with how repairs were going.... more
Tabo is a cute littel property on the banks of lake toba on samosir. The first time in february we stayed in a deluxe room (hot water etc) but they had the most charming batak villa- which is where we stayed in May when we went back. The batak villas are quaint and lovely, the food great, the lake lovely... more
