located right on the shore of Lake Toba. Lovely hotel with several Batak houses and bungalows. We staye a this place for 6 nights and enjoyed every single day. Very friendly staff and also Annette the German owner where very helpful with useful information about the island. We can only recommend this plave to everybody.

stay there for one night on March 28 2012, the location of the hotel is very good and breakfast also very good especially the Sumatra coffee. One thing that should be provided by the hotel management is the free water in the room.

Logistics - Tabo Cottages' website does a good job of breaking out your various transport options from Medan. A private car took four solid hours, including a 15 minute stop. Lake Toba is the place that never was, however Tabo Cottages was satisfactory. We had a few issues the room we booked didn't match what we got, the Batak Villa was supposed to have a mezzanine floor with a french futon for 2 in addition to the queen bed, what we got was a single floor with a single bed... Tabo Cottages is a nice resort set in a good (and convenient) location. The staff are friendly but the food is a bit simple (and seemed to mainly vegetarian!) and the rooms could do with a bit of an update. However, it’s still a nice place on an amazing island set on a gorgeous lake.
