First the pros: definitely the best location, right next to the lake and all the awesome cafes. A spacious room in the new wing (we got 207) which has a lift to access it. It has a fireplace, a heater/blower, a tv with all channels you would want, a wifi router (yes the whole router!), an electric kettle and a spacious bathroom. A 5L water mineral water bottle is provided and replenished because anything with less volume is banned in Kodaikanal, which is something all hill stations should follow. Comfortable bed, pillows and plenty of blankets. Great and cheap restaurant, a library that could beat most bookshops hollow and a fully equipped gym. We also had a special Pongal Lunch which was awesome. Now the cons: the room looks out on the lake road and because it is just a thin pane of.glass that separates the outside noise from the room, it becomes difficult to sleep if a dog barks/howls or vehicles blare their horns.…

Excellent club , well maintained. Rooms are very good especially 101-106, they have old Victorian Tudor Architecture. Garden and views are lovely. Lovely housekeeping staff. Fell in love with the place. Thank you Mr Minoo Avri for being an excellent host.

We’ve been coming to Kodai a couple of times a year with our daughter studying in the lovely boarding school next to the Club. With Carlton hotel charging around $200 a night given their lake facing location, though a terrible hotel, we started staying at the club next door. For Kodai School parents this location is super convention. At least if you don’t treat the lap of luxury a routine matter! The club is a bit dowdy all right. The club itself - dating back to 1880 something - is a very very charming building (like a lot of lovely structures dotted around the town). It is what the brits were used to in terms of a club! Bar, 2 dining rooms, billiards, card room and a sun filled reading room & library. The open areas are charming, covered in green and flowering right through. It’s the rooms that have not had much attention to detail. The rooms are large (at least the new wing) and that makes them chilly. They may well have made smaller ones. Many of the rooms have a small study you enter through - really small with huge sofas! So no space to navigate. The rooms then - huge! With a good 18” TV on a distant wall. Lamps that are connected to plug points (so if you have to charge your phone, do unscrew the bulb). It’s this sort of thoughtless stuff in what is otherwise a lovely place that makes one smile at the idiocy of Indian architects & contractors. The food at the club has always been nice; though we have taken to eating our (South Indian) breakfast in the lane behind the club. When here, do carry shoes and do a walk around the lake - 4.5kms - and it becomes clear why our own country must be explored as much as we love to travel to Europe. Along with Munnar, this has to be among India’s prettiest hill towns. …

We spent a few days in a double room in the "new block". The rooms was spacious, but very basic as was the bathroom. The food was very good and the staff always happy to help. The main issue we had was the noise from the street due to poorly-insulted rooms.

The location is excellent and the food is good. Rooms are clean, airy and large. Don't expect the service to be like 3-4 star hotels and you'll enjoy the stay. No room service and 24 hrs coffee shop here. Don't forget to visit the bar, colonial and regal with cigar and wood smell. Overall recommended if you don't expect it to be looked a regular hotel.

A different experience staying in this resort, due to the fact that it is club resort restricted to members, there are restrictions Pros: 1. An awesome resort which blends well with nature 2. A clean place and a well-kept place with awesome landscaping 3. Rooms are spacious with good ventilation, restrooms are decent with availability of hot water throughout 4. Indoor games like badminton, table tennis, and snooker available and facilities are well maintained. 5. Well maintained health club 6. Traveled during peak time, but the club had very few guests (Never crowded) 7. Food was decent and priced reasonably Cons: 1. Restrictions. You got to wear shirts and shoes in certain zones 2. Some of those staff members are old and slow in responding (guess they have been working there for ages) 3. The security (gatekeeper) kept insisting that there are no rooms the minute we entered. Kind of awkward since some of us were members. 4. No room service, ensure you don't litter around in your rooms, got to take a walk to the restaurant for food…

I come to Kodaikanal for Board Meetings twice a year. I normally stay in other hotels, but this time I decided to try the Kodai Club. When I got to the reception, the actual receptionist was not there, there was a guy filling in who did not know where to find reservations. After a few phone calls we found that by mistake they had booked my room from the next day, and with a few more phone calls that was corrected. After checking in, they could not let me go thru the building because I was wearing Keens closed toe sandles instead of shoes. So I had to walk around the peripheri of the building to get to the room. In the room, the TV did not work. They don't have Wifi in any other areas than the library. You cant go to the library unless you wear shoes. I was then supposed to meet a friend so went sat in the bar area waiting for him. Knowing the rules now, I wore shoes. The attend came and asked me to leave because after 6pm you have to wear long sleeve shirts and I was wearing a Ralph Lauren knit shirt with collar. There is no air conditioning in the facility and it was hot enough to be sweating at rest. I was supposed to stay for 4 nights, but moved to another hotel after that first night. Would never stay here again!!!!…

The ala carte lunch offers a menu to choose from.Add to the delicacy, the love and affection of the staff. You are just ready to plan for the next meal at the club.
