I stayed in a dorm at the Dune Guesthouse, in a room off an attractive central courtyard, which makes a pleasant (and shady!) communal area as well as a place to hang drying laundry. And sweetcorn. The hostel is located about 10 minutes outside of Dunhuang, a few minutes walk from the entrance to the sand dunes. It is a great location.
