Everything about Phoenix Hostel is first rate. Nick & Cathy are wonderful hosts, making us feel welcome, comfortable and really at home. They are interesting to chat with and knowledgeable about Veliko Tarnovo and give an excellent briefing and information on things to see and do in and around the town. The whole house is nicely decorated, bright and spotlessly... More

This home is lovely, spacious, calm, clean and you feel incredibly welcome and relaxed when staying here. The breakfast is simply the best i had in all bulgaria, and cathy and nick, the owners, were like a second family for some days. They give you all you could need and more, and you might end up having some really interesting... More

Phoenix hostel was one of the best parts of my trip around Bulgaria! The lovely managers, Cathy and Nick, had so much knowledge about the city, restaurants, and gave me great advice on where to hike in Veliko Turnovo. It feels so comfortable and home-like, with free internet and a social area, as well as being clean and welcoming. I... More

Ian and Kathy run a lovely place, very clean, quiet, hot showers, good sized rooms, laid back atmosphere and inexpensive too. I was made to feel like one of the family from the moment I knocked at their door, both were very knowledgeable of the local town, buses and trains times etc. The hostel is central to both the old citadel... Above all, the service offered at Phoenix Hostel is the best I've encountered yet. The owners were very friendly and gave us information on just about anything - nearby sights of interest, the history of the city, day trips, hiking trails in the area, information on public transportation, restaurants etc., and this information was more detailed and accurate than what... I've been to many hostels in Europe and Asia, but Phoenix hostel really is the best one I've been to. The owners, Cathy and Nick, are two lovely British people who treat you like a guest in their home (which is actually the case). The feeling really is of being a guest in a relative's house rather than a hostel.... More

I discovered Hostel Phoenix on internet, we read all revues and decided to book a short holiday together with my family (my mother, husband and two sons). I have no words to describe how we felt there. You have to go there to see, to met these people (I'm sorry I didn't met Nick, maybe next time). Cathy is a... More

This place is really nice! very clean, quite comfortable etc...This is at least a very good reason to recommend this place. But what definetely makes it one of the most pleasant hostel I've been, is actually: "Cathy and Nick"! They are extremely nice and welcoming people! And they will really make you fell like you belong to the family. More

This renovated traditional house is a very well run hostel, certainly the best we have stayed in on our trip to Bulgaria. Nick was away in Wales for most of our stay and we just met him as we were about to leave, so we didn't have the luxury of being picked up at the bus station, and Cathy was... More

The owners were very kind and spent a lot of time to explain us what and where are the best place to visit in Veliko. In addition, the welcome was warm, and they prepared us the breakfast the following morning. The amenities are simple but efficient and sufficient, and all is very clean. More
