Booked this through i-escape and expected better based on reviews, but did enjoy my stay. Positives: Staff and hotel's dogs were lovely and made me feel very safe! The hotel had a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere about it. Rooms were cleaned daily and felt fresh. We checked the more expensive rooms and would advise travellers to book these - they... More

Overall we liked the Castelinho38, and the service was absolutely superb. Good breakfast, great location and the hotel provided us with subway passes and umbrellas for the New Years celebration. It was also nice and clean and the staff very friendly. We were however very disappointed since we had booked the Suite Deluxe and expected an old colonial style room... More

location, design, price, service -- perfect. take a cab, bus or train to the beaches / christ / sugarloaf if you must -- this place is just seconds away from all the great bars & restaurants of santa teresa (sobre natural, bar do mineiro, aprazivel), yet on a quiet gated street for total quiet. the terrace overlooking the city --... We stayed here & enjoyed it, the place is interesting as a building, it has been well restored by Marco to create a gem. The terrace overlooking the city is fine, the breakfasts good & the staff helpful & friendly. The room we had was quite small, the bathroom tight. At the start it seems far from the centre but... This Is a lovely place to stay, clean with very friendly and helpful staff, lovely area of rio, bars and food very close. I found the area to be very safe, no trouble at all and never felt threatened even at night. The only thing I can say against this place is that the tram no longer runs so getting... More

I spent a few days in Copacabana before traveling to Iguazu and elsewhere. Before returning home, I spent one last night in Rio at Castelinho 38. It was really charming. It is a bit remote so you will have to travel to get to other areas and the Santa Teresa trolly is not running (there was a significant accident a... More

Santa teresa is uber chic and stunning- a great break away from the hecticness of the rest of Rio. We love the neighbourhood and were really pleased we stayed here and not in town. Castelinho38 is a great place to stay in Santa Teresa. The breakfast was super healthy and yummy- amazing juices, cheeses, fruit etc. The staff are GREAT-... More

The hotel was really great. Cute, clean, decently priced. The breakfast was included and really nice. Rooms are basic but clean, that's important for Rio. Two nice dogs even live here and are fun. The main problem is Santa Teresa isn't near ANYTHING in Rio. It's a 20-30 minute cab to any area worth walking around. It's not ever near... More

In our opinion, this B&B eked out a 4 star rating based on it's staff's helpfulness and suggestions. At the outset over emails, we were given unprompted as well as solicited information on things to do not only in Rio but in Ilha Grande. Daniel Almeida was a standout in this regard. Unfortunately, upon our arrival, we were met with... More

Helpful, friendly staff, English spoken, and a haven for relaxtion after busy days at a conference elsewhere in the city. Clean, reasonably sized room and nice breakfasts and bar area. On top of a hill with great views, but many steps and perhaps not so good for anyone with walking difficulties (not a problem for us). Within 10 minutes' walk... More
