No security. Thieves in the staff? Not all of them!
Dirty.
Cold water only.
Noisy.
Washrooms permanently flooded, consequently very dirty.
Bad smell.
Full of smokers (of narcotics included), despite the Brazilian law. ALL the chaps of the staff are smokers and narc.-smokers!
It seemed nobody was in charge.
Too hot during the day.
Too cold during the night.

The hostel is generally okay. We booked this during the carnival because it was among the only once left. Its pretty noisy (especially during carnival) and the management did not seem to be too organized. People were given beds that were already taken all the time - apparently i took somebody else´s bed. The rooms and bathrooms are pretty dirty...

I booked this hostel before leaving for my trip around the world, and unfortunately now 6 months in, it is still the worst I have stayed in. Main reasons? Well...
- Cold showers
- Old bed sheets
- It rained and the kitchen leaked - including huge bubbles in the painted walls that had to be burst
- Disgusting kitchen...

We stayed at this hostel during Carnaval in 2009. We had heard brilliant things about the hostel so were really looking forward to our week long stay. The day we arrived the hostel had been raided by theives who tied up all the guests staying there and took all their cash, IPods, cameras etc as well as the hostels computers....

This clearly is the best Hostel to stay at on Friday-Saturday Night. It is right in the center of the weekly street parties. Which means you have a toilet when you need one (hard to come by in Rio)
