Loved the hostel. Not perfect but where is, its a hostel after all. Can be a little hectic and noisy as it is a party place. Also the building is a bit old. However, many many positives. The bar is great with lots going on and you'll meet loads of people. Surpisingly the food at the bar is also great.... more
It was clean and staff were useful sometimes. The bar was good fun. Think next time I'd prefer to stay in Ipenema more

I was looking for a good hostel in Rio but I didn't expect to find anything as good as Mellow Yellow. The staff were knowledgable and helpful and the location is brilliant. It is also great fun staying there and the hostel is extremely well kitted out. I would stay again if I come back this way. more

This is a huge backpacker factory, completely without any soul or charm! Don't waste your time, Rio has so many other backpacker places where you can stay comfortably and without bedbugs, disgusting bathrooms, unhelpful princesses in the reception, too many drunken first-time travellers... Clearly not every hostel is suitable for everyone. Mellow Yellow is a large hostel with a largely young crowd intent on partiyng and making the most of the best hostel bar in Brasil. Well what can we say. For a start the guests opinion is clearly not indicative of the general consesus about mellow yellow. As regards the Lapa street party, how this has anything to do with the hostel I do not know. We organise transport there every friday to save guests money. Its not a tour.
