The only thing this place has of a hotel is the name (that incidentally has been removed from the front as part of the renovation). The room was dirty, the beds used and abused, the carpet completely stained, half the tv channels didn't work and the shower disgusting (rusted shower head). Sadly it was one of the only hotels available... More

The city was fulll and this one was the only place available! Never ever again! Big, but very old rooms with totally uncharming furniture. Very dirty and old carpet floor. They are refurbishing the restaurant, so workers began to make noise at 7 am and did not stop anymore. Only good thing was the location and breakfast was ok, but... More

I would agree that this is a strictly no frills hotel, but my room was very clean, no smells, and was absolutely enormous, with a huge bathroom and an excellent shower! The location is unbeatable at this price - as well as the beach, the back room that I was in had a small balcony and a great view over... More

This 1950's hotel has an absolutely wonderful location opposite Copacabana beach, but it looks, feels and smells as though it hasn't been touched since it was built! Windows on the outside of the building no longer have glass, the foyer is sparse to say the least with minimal security and the once elegant interior now feels like something from The... More

My second stay in this hotel in the last three years. Every other hotel was full My colleague had his credit card skimmed by the waiter in the cafe/bar downstairs!! A large sum was withdrawn from his account illegally. Another colleague had her laptop stolen from her room on our previous stay! Old a and dirty rooms and batthrooms. Old,... More

I have stayed at the Ouro Verde on many trips over the past decade. It has always been a Rio land mark, and, though its glory days were obviously behind it, it always maintained some of the grandeur from its better days. So we were stunned this trip as soon as we walked in to the lobby. The hotel had... More

I arrived here hot and tired on a day when Rio had a soaring temperatures of 39 degrees.I tried to turn on the air conditioning in my room and it fell off the wall. I was hungry and went to the restaurant and it was closed for refurbishment. The nearest bar appeared to be full of working girls - whom... More

It’s a pity that a nice building facing Copacabana Beach, with beautiful art deco architecture and huge rooms, is completely wasted in one area where the square meter is rated one of the most expensive in Rio. Any visionary hotel brand as W Hotels, One & Only, Anantara, Grand Millenium… etc… should buy this property and make it a hotel... More

Stayed here in September 2004. Read a few reviews in Fodor's and Frommers and while I can see that the hotel had some charm with its art deco architecture, beautiful central stairway in mosaic, it all seems like it was in the past...be aware of the following: 1) Rooms are ok but carpeting is in desperate need of replacement. 2)...
