So, this place has 80 or more beds and 6 bathrooms. You can do the math. The place is ok, but the staff are very unprofessional. The employees are all in their 20s and they use the place as their personal party house. I was there for 7 nights. On 2 separate nights people NOT assigned to my room came... More

We've booked on line this hostel from the website, since it looked professional and very central. We requested a double room with private bathroom, since we liked the hostel-style mood, but we need some extras. An airport connection service was included, and there our trip to hell began. The "connection" was operated by a sort of illegal taxi driver, with... More

What I really like about the El Misti Botafogo is the location. It's right in between central Rio and the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. And since the beaches are not as awesome as everyone claims, I think it's good to stay in the middle of the road and be able to reach any places of interest in a couple... More

El Misti's forte is in creating an excellent ambiance. They organize various group activities, and their common areas are set up in a way to maximize the feeling of community. It is an ideal place to meet fellow travelers, find stimulating conversation, get advice for things to do, and partake in communal meals. The best thing to do is sign... More

I was there for 3 nights with my girlfriend. The place is nice, close to the metro station botafogo, to the bus stop that connect the hostel with the main attractions of the city (and airport also). The hostel organize many activities, as city tour, favela tour, stadium, pick up from airport, barbecue etc. You can have a very good... More

Just a short note or two on El Misti - Botafogo. I had a short stay here and always stay in an hotel type of environment, However I was Pleased with my Own Private single room at El Misti. It was a big room, clean and no complaints. Very similar to an hotel. I always went for the Dinner in... More

As long as you don't stay in one of the horrible cramp and dirty dorms (go for a private room!!!!) this hostel is great. There is an adorable, lovely Brasilian chef who provides the most amazing breakfast (toasties, cake, biscuits, fresh bread, fresh fruit, juices...and much more!) and a delicious buffet meal every night! We ate in the hostel every... More

I met all kind of people, we created a cool band those 5 days I was there. The team is wonderful, really really nice, the food is excellent. Only negative point is that showers and WC are not separated... Too long queue!

...central, nice staff, possibility to book tours there, excelent dinners every night and gives a feeling that they actually are here for backpackers, and not for profit. Totally recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!

want to be mugged? Visit the El Misti. They broke my lock and stole my stuff. After the crime, the hostel staff acted as if nothing had happened, besides there is evidence of the hotel's own team have carried out the assault. I definitely would not recommend it to anyone.
