I have to start off by saying that I was there 17 months ago (Sep 2010)...I've been busy :) I took my wife there on our honeymoon (both 28 years old), I chose this place because I didn't want the typical hotel by the beach, with the busy city and all I had heard about how dangerous the city streets... My wife and I spent a week at the lovely Casa Amarelo, a tastefully renovated 1904 mansion in the hilly Santa Teresa district of Rio. Everything was clean and organized in a comfortable way. Our room was sunny, with a large double bed, high ceilings and a giant bath/shower area. A little key-locked safe had recently been installed where we... More

My friend and I spent 3 nights at casa amarelo in rio and since our booking we have not been very happy of this hotel. They cancelled our reservation for one of the three nights promising us to pay a room in anoher hotel, then they confirmed our first reservation , but not in the room we choose... The common... More

I spent two days in Casa Amarelo and enjoyed every moment of it. The location is fantastic - the bonde (quaint tram) stops on the street outside the guest house, as do frequent buses that will ferry you down into Lapa and Centro. The house itself is beautiful and very tastefully restored. As well as original tiles, filttings and furniture... More

This place is situated in hills of Santa Teresa, its good area, very good area, actually, but near couple of favelas that you dont wanna visit. (And positive side: nice little walk and you reach Rios great party area number one, Lapa). All taxis dont wanna come here! We were told twice that they dont wanna took us in there,... More

Maria & I were very pleased with our stay in Rio for our honeymoon, really very nice hotel to stay, good breakfasts, quiet and safe at night. Matthieu was a great host indeed, helped us every time we needed his advice.

Casa Amarelo is a delightful and very elegantly renovated old house in one of the most interesting areas of Rio. Its magical atmosphere and the quality of the service provided contributed to the wonderful time we had while staying there. It is a very rare and special place, perfect for who is in search of a different experience.
