This was our first time in a ryokan, we heard about ryokans from many people before, and how expensive it could be if you wanted something authentic. At Kikokuso, you get the authenticity (this is the fifth generation running it) at a very affordable rate (for Japan), and on top of that, the kindness and great service by this wonderful... More

I was travelling solo, but still wanted to try the Ryokan experience for 2 nights. The main reason I chose Kikokuso was the great location, close to the station and main bus routes and this turned out to be a good move. I've never stayed in another ryokan so I don't know how it compares but everything went smoothly with... More

It was our second time in Kyoto and we finally managed to book 3 nights in this fantastic ryokan. When we came in 2009 it was not possible as it was already fully booked. We now undertsand the reason why: it is in a perfect location (at walking distance from Kyoto station and at walking distance from Gion), it's a... More

We arrived on Monday and were very nicely and warmly welcomed in this ryokan. A traditional wooden Japanese house. Very nice rock and pond garden with huge fish. The rooms are a normal size for Japan. Nicely decorated and very clean. There is no bathroom in the rooms (so you have to use the toilet And bathroom with others) but... More

Apart from the fact this is a delightful and charming ryoken, the highlight of this place and the reason you should stay here is the absolutely amazing hosts who you can't help but adore. Words cannot express how incredibly sweet and helpful and genuinely kind this couple are. The attention to detail is incredible. On noticing one of our party... More

Kikokuso is a wonderful place to stay and an amazing experience. It is a tiny paradise tucked inside the city. There are no complaints to be had and the lodging could not have been more perfect. The best part about staying in a ryokan is getting the chance to experience a traditional Japanese meal. The food is beautiful and strange... More

We stayed at Kikokuso for three nights in November. We walked from the main train station. A great landmark on a map for finding Kikokuso is the Shosei-en garden which it is across the street from. We arrived early, so they stored our bags, handed us a local map with some walking around ideas for the rest of our afternoon.... More

We stayed in this lovely traditional Ryokan for 3 nights at the end of September. Everything here from the moment you enter is a wonderful experience. The staff are so genuine and wonderfully efficient, the inn is within walking distance of the amazing Kyoto railway station although you feel like you are in a quiet village backstreet . It is... I've been recommending this ryokan to all my friends, so I figured I should write a proper review as well. I stayed here for just one night on a very short trip to Kyoto, but I wish we could have stayed longer. Upon arriving in Kyoto Station, we took a cab to our hotel to drop off our bags in... More

The Ryokan Kikokuso is in close approximity of the main station at Kyoto. By foot it is about 8 Minutes to walk or just take the bus for one stop. The Auberge is very small (4 rooms) and has a little Japanese Garden. The rooms are typically Japanese and the landlord couple tries everything to read every wish from your... More
