I stayed at Hirota Guest house as part of a group of 5 on a business trip. We were presented with clean and homely accomodation. With everything we needed in terms of facilites and service. We were given so much assistance during our stay with helpful information of where to go and how to get there together with translation over... More

We recently returned from trip to Japan and stayed in Hirota's guest house. Whilst we appreciate the information that Hirota was very happy to provide us with when we arrived (as all other reviewers got...map, routes, 'must sees' etc...), we were very tired from the train journey and we perhaps didn't enjoy the hour-long lecture on all the wonders of... I had a good experience at Hirota's guest house. Hirota-san was very helpful in provided recommendations to see Kyoto. At times she was a bit adamant in her recommendations, but it was welcomed because Kyoto is a big city and it is hard to make choices. My room and linens were clean and I found the room very comfortable and... More

I'll keep this short.. Booked in to stay at Hirota Guest house in March 2007 while on a 'bonding' trip with my mother. 1) We were told explicitly to use the heater economically (it was 7 degrees Celcius that day). 2) Ms Hirota looked clearly inconvenienced when my mother asked for an extra pillow 3) all the bedding was mottled... We had a great stay. We booked only for 1 night, that is all our schedule allowed. Hirota greeted us with cookies and green tea. She found out how much time we had and gave us advice what to see and do in that short amount of time, the treasures of Kyoto that we shouldn't miss. Her advice was priceless!!!... More

My husband and I just returned from a 10 day trip to Japan and spent four nights at the Hirota Guest House, 2 in the main house and 2 in the private cottage. We found both to be clean and simple, and a fantastic value. The owner, Ms. Hirota, made getting around Kyoto easy, mapping out bus, train, and walking... More

We recently returned from our stay at the Hirota Guest House in Kyoto and I would say it was a mixed experience. I stayed there even though there were no reviews, although the photos I found on the web were decent [-----------------------------------------------] The pros:- 1) Ms. Harumi Hirota who runs the guesthouse, which was an old sake factory, is a...
