Excellent service and atmosphere, this is what you'd expect from staying in Japan. Definitely part of a Japanese experience, I would recommend it to everyone!

I booked a room for a friend going to Kyoto in November 11. It was difficult to find something at this very busy period. I know now why I at last found a room at Yachiyo. In fact, the room available at a very high price (a so-called "typical japanse" room) was under the roof with no view and noisy (sure!...

Great location, right in front of the gate to Nanzenji. We could walk to Heian jingu and Kyoto Handicraft center the next morning. About 800 yen taxi ride downtown in the evening for dinner (or you can borrow bikes and ride to town). We stayed in the 6-mat tatami with toilet - quite charming in Japanese style, room/bathroom itself clean...

Family of 4 with the first time in a Ryokan for my family. We spent 2 nights and enjoyed the huge rooms we had on the first floor. It was traditionnal with a nice view on the garden below. The futon beds were comfortable and the staff very nice. The only bad point is the street noise during the night....

Stayed for 3 nights at a room on the second floor. The room was comfortable and the staff were nice to deal with. The staff that I talked with knew at least a little bit of English and were comfortable with trying to communicate. The toilet and shower/bath were clean and worked as expected, along with the air conditioning.

We showed up about an hour before our reservation - the staff was very friendly and accommodating and let us into our room early. The room was clean and bright and the futons were so very comfortable, it was our best night of sleep in Japan! This is a great location for visiting the philosophers path and the Kamo river...

Very peaceful and beautiful if you are looking for a quiet spot. There is easy access to the subway nearby, so it is convenient, even if a little remote.
The staff are friendly, but keep in mind this is a Ryokan, not a hotel. That means that it's like staying in someone's home, to an extent. Rarely have I seen...

I'll make this a short review - for the money spent (about $250/night for two people for a room with a private bath and western toilet), we really deserved much more. The service was pretty sparse, there wasn't a warm feeling to the service, and there wasn't much of an "experience" created by the staff. The traffic noise was there,...

The breakfast and dinner served there are tasty and seasonal. Ryokan staff are friendly and can handle simple English conversation, and this help explain why the service there is excellent. Although the room wall paper is a bit shabby in the old wing, still worthwhile for a stay. The ryokan is close to the famous bean curd restaurant, a must...
