I have to start with the negative. It's way overdue for a facelift, i.e. wall coverings, carpeting, furniture, bathrooms. Then the positive - absolutely prime location. Our western style room on the 4th floor (no elevator - be forewarned!) had a gorgeous view of the grand Torii (shrine gate) and overlooked the canal with cherry blossoms in full bloom on... More

Kyoto Traveller's Inn is an okay budget hotel. The plus side: inexpensive, free wifi at lobby, accessible by bus No. 5 and No.100 from Kyoto Station to Heian Shrine. Down side: buses run till 11pm. If you have to find your way back to the hotel after 11pm, you'll probably have to take a subway and walk for another 15-25... More

Stayed at this place with a group of friends. The hotel has good rooms (some with 2 single beds and some with 3). Comfy beds, small but sufficient bathrooms. Wi-fi was only in the lobby which sucked. Great location and within walking distances to the JR, bus station, 7/11 etc. Also within 15-20 min walking distance to Gion. Rate is... More

This is a basic and clean hotel at a very reasonable price for Kyoto located along the canal by the Modern Museum, Philosopher's Walk and Kyoto subway (all less than 10 mins walk). There were twin beds in our clean and orderly room (no one should expect boutique or major chain hotel level rooms). The staff speaks English well and... More

From what I found online, Kyoto seems to be far more expensive than Tokyo (where I live). This hotel is certainly evidence of that. It's pretty expensive to stay here, but it was basically the cheapest thing I could find in Kyoto. The building is old and has the feel of a youth hostel or something; we stayed on the... More

I read the good reviews for this 'hotel' and I don't recognize that they are describing the same place that I stayed at. Kyoto has a bad reputation for hotel quality and this place only reinforces this. We only picked this place because it was the only one we could find that could accommodate our group. That should have made... More

Kyoto Traveler's Inn was great, the staff's English was pretty good and were also very helpful and cheerful. We stayed in the Western style accom. It was small but great for what we wanted, we walked to a lot of the attractions and just loved staying here. If we could of we would have extended our stay a little longer.... More

This experience started well but ended badly. I booked this hotel thinking it is a hotel but it turned out to be something more akin to a Hostel. The property is small-ish, family run establishment, located right opposite from Kyoto Art Gallery. It is in a charming local area but pretty far from central Kyoto and about 20 minutes walk... More

Well you get what you pay for and this hotel is as good as it comes for budget travelers. In fact, if it was 15 or 20 years ago and I was in college or in my early to mid 20s I would really LOVE this place. Its really suitable for college students and young people backpacking. The place is... More

As the title says we were trying to have our cake and eat it. The travelers inn is superbly located for sightseeing (which is why you are planning a trip to Kyoto I'll wager). The staff speak excellent English, the rooms are basic but comfortable and there are some really decent restaurants within easy walking distance. Unless you are after... More
