We stayed at The Heian Bo Ryokan for 4 nights. It was easy to get to and we arrived really late at night and mamasan waited for us and welcomed us in. It was really close to Kyoto station where you can access pretty much all of the wonderful things Kyoto has to offer and to Kyoto yodabashi department store.... More

We stayed in this ryokan only for one night, but thought that when we visit Kyoto again we will choose to stay in it - it was one of the best ryokans we stayed in during our one-month trip in Japan, and in a very good location (3 min. walk from the Kyoto JR train station, 15-minutes walk from Gion).

Stayed at the Ryokan Heianbo for 4 nights while in Kyoto on a tour. It was just like staying at someone's home, The rooms weren't huge, nor the bathrooms, but it was a real Japanese experience. If you were looking for a plush western motel, then I'd be looking elsewhere, but if you have come to Japan to absorb the... More

I would heartily recommend this ryokan. It is very convenient for the train and bus station. The room was spacious and comfortable, and very light, with lots of windows. It's a bit like a maze inside, and you do need someone to show you where your room is, as they're not numbered (luckily the staff are nice and are used... More

I had a little trouble finding it; be sure to print out a map and a picture of the building to help you identify it. The staff was very nice but speaks little English. Those were the only real negative points. The ryokan is very close to the main train, subway, and bus terminal which is very convenient. There are... More

This ryokan is well located 5 minutes from Kyoto Station (practical when arriving and also when moving by bus through the city). The explanation given by Japanese Guesthouses was fine, except we got mixed up with the Kintetsu department store (that's the name on our map, but we saw that afterwards) since that name is wirtten nowhere on the building.... This place was so neat! The staff was amazing! The food was delicious and the rooms were comfortable! The was the highlight of the trip and I wish we would have stayed in more places like this, this has changed the way we travel for sure. Now instead of going to big chain hotels, we would much rather experience something... More

I stayed at Heianbo for one evening and it is conveniently located to Kyoto station - lugging suitcases on wheels wasn't too painful. There's a supermarket nearby and lots of places to eat. The ryokan allowed us to drop our luggage off early before check-in and allowed our luggage to remain for a while after check out. The room was... More

I stayed at this ryokan during march 09, I found the people to be so lovely!! It made my time in Kyoto very interesting. Was great to stay in a traditional Japanese style home. I had many thoughts and worries on what this ryokan would be like, but it was great, had a futon for a bed which was very... More

Stayed for 3 nights and found the place overall average. The ryokan is only 5min walk from the station so very conveniently located. They used to have 2 cats now only one who looks old and frail and can't look after himself very well. He is not allowed into the guest rooms but roams around freely in the rest of... More
