I booked a twin room in Guesthouse Kingyoya after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor. And I wasn't disappointed. The house is old but well-maintained, and I loved the feeling of being in a traditional Kyoto machiya. We followed the instructions on the access map on the Kingyoya site and found no problems finding the place. The room was a little... More

This house is very traditional with a lovely garden. It is a good sample for who wants to experience Japanese traditional house. However, I booked for 3 nights but stayed 2 nights only, I felt annoyed as I could hear other rooms' noise but other people might not feel the same. It is convenient location to visit Golden Temple but... More

Stayed in a 2-preson dorm room, it is basic but full of style. it is clean and cozy, the building itself is beautiful. However the wall of the dorm room is too thin and I hear noise from the neighbors. Shower room is great and they offer bathe too. Breakfast is the traditional one, it is expensive so just try... The guesthouse is located in a residential area, easily reached by bus. The interior is 100% Japanese style. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I stayed in a 4 female dorm for 4 nights, the Japanese style futon was comfortable. But the main problem is the poor soundproof, I can hear everything from next room.

I was in Japan during 2 weeks and for the two first nights in Kyoto, i was in this place. Easy to find when you take the bus and have a map. I really wanted to sleep in this kind of place and it was just beautiful, not a big place.. People are so nice (like most japanese people, that's... More

It's one of the best choice if you are ready to experience some Japanese style: the way you sleep, you talk, shared bathroom, and food. Some may think privacy is a bigger issue while many tourists find it interesting to spend several days in this guesthouse to complete their experience in Japan.

The staff here are lovely and helpful. The house is 10 years old and beautiful with incense burning by the stairs. The location is fine as there is a bus stop nearby and the temples are scattered everywhere in Kyoto anyway there is not fixed point you will need to be at. There cosy restaurants nearby too. Breakfast is really... More

Stayed two nights here. Lovely ryokan, best value in Kyoto. Breakfast worth getting for the experience. The garden at the back is just heaven. Location a bit out of the way in Kyoto. But dont let it turn you off Kyoto is not a big city and services well by buses and subway. The map given by kingoya not to... More

We stayed at the Kingyoya for 3 nights (would have wanted one more, but they were booked). We totally loved our Japanese-style room and the common areas. There is only one shower and two toilets, but we never had to wait. Plus there is an Onsen (public bath) just 5 minutes walk from the gueshouse. As said the Kingyoya is... More

We had a fantastic time staying here. The best part was renting bikes and exploring the tiny roads that bisect these residential parts of Kyoto. Just take some random left and rights and you'll find all kinds of random temples. It is also really close to one of the best public Onsens and there is a great cafe and paper... More
