Toyoko Inn offers great value rooms with free internet in the lobby and free breakfast. Rooms are clean and large enough (Japanese standard) for this price. This Kyoto branch, however, is not exactly close to the train station (although close to the bus stop, a couple of stops from the main station).

We stayed here only for 1 night on our 1 day trip to Kyoto during winter time. We tricked by the hotel website that said only 15 minutes walk from JR Kyoto Station. I have stayed at this exact location 2 years ago and found it very convenient. This Toyoko Inn is situated on Karasuma about midway between Gojo and Shijo.
