We stayed three nights in Kyoto at Eco and Tec, a hotel conserving energy and trying to be mindful of the environment. Though the rooms are small, and are only cleaned every three days, this hotel has some highlights. The community space in the lounge is great for socializing and there is a free coffee and tea bar with dishes... More

This was our base for 3 nights. LOVED that it was in a quiet neighborhood, away from the hustle and bustle. It was easy walking distance to some of the best sights...walked along a canal to Gion and Pontocho and also along the temple path (name?) past Yaska shrine to Kiyomizu Temple.. It did take 2 subway trains to get... More

Not a luxurious hotel, but very well located. Actually, a good hotel for the price. We went in the high season and still got a good deal on the 4 nights we spent here. Not too many restaurants in the immediate area, but still the hotel is at walking distance from some of the most beautiful/important areas in Kyoto. Also... More

The hotel is very well located, within walking distance of most of the temples in the Eastern part of Kyoto, a 3 minute walk from the Higashiyama subway station, and about 10-15 minutes walk from Gion or the area around the intersection of Sanjo Dori and Kawaramachi Dori, both of which have a large number of restaurants. (There's also at... More

I stayed here 3 nights and was amazed at how thin the walls were. I could hear every bit of conversation from the hallway and from the adjacent rooms. That was not fun and it definitely kept me up at night. Otherwise, all else here was great. The location was excellent, in the center of the Higashiyama area, and very... More

Eco and Tec (E&T) is a small hotel perfectly located in a quiet residential street and within walking distance of many of the sights in Kyoto - Gion (15 mins), Pontocho (15 mins), the Philosopher's Path and walking route which heads to the south and includes 5 historic temples (the start is just a couple of minutes walk from E&T),... It took me ages to finally find a hotel in Kyoto - most ryokans and hostels seemed too expensive and had shared bathrooms but Eco + Tec had super clean, modern, quiet and comfortable rooms with private bathrooms. We stayed in a twin room for around 11,000yen per night - for Kyoto, that price is totally reasonable. The hotel is... More

This hotel was a wonderful base for exploring Kyoto, being right in the middle of the Philosophers Path, a temple and 'old Kyoto' walk that takes in all of the major sights except for Kinkuji, Ryo-anji and Fushimi Inari. About 5 minutes from our door, we were at the spectacular gate of Chion-In and the unimaginably beautiful old-Kyoto sites that... More

I stayed in a single room for 4 nights and found the place to be very comfortable, clean and spacious. It was a convenient base to visit the famous temples along Jingu-michi (e.g. Shoren-in, Chion-in, Kodai-ji), museums in the Okazaki area and also Nanzenji, etc along the Philosopher's Walk. All these within walking distance. I particularly liked the fact that... More

We endorse all the comments below. We stayed nine nights in a twin bed room and though it wasn't huge we got by quite well. The downstairs of the hotel includes an area that's almost like a hostel with tables, microwave, free coffee and tea, and even massage chairs. Even better, washing machines and driers! And free wifi. The location... More
