I chose the ryokan on the basis of Lonely planet and was not disappointed. Friendly service, a personal room maid, great onsen, good food. Breakfast (included) is copious, Japanese style with fruit and vegetables, too. The location is perfect, close to the station, just beside the botanical garden. It is not cheap, but you get full value. It is housed... More

My wife and I have stayed at Nakamura-ya about a dozen times in the last four years. It is a friendly place in an excellent location (walkable from the station, between Hokkaido University Botanical Gardens and the Former Hokkaido Government Building) in a street lined with magnificent red oak trees. Compared to hotels in Sapporo — which tend to be... More

A week long trip in Sapporo was an unimaginable delight, and the credit won't go to the beautiful city of Sapporo alone. The time I spent in Nakamuraya was delightful. The room was cozy and well-decorated, the staff was very courteous (even by Japanese standards), the breakfast was delicious and the services and facilities offered were excellent. Next time I'm... I stayed here together with 3 other friends in a fairly large room. Even when our futons were laid out for the evening there was plenty of room for our bags in an anteroom. The ensuite facilities were small (although normal for Japan) but there was also a communal onsen. A japanese-style breakfast was included in the price. Service was... More

Arriving late in Sapporo, we were really happy to find a place that wasn't a faceless tower block. The staff were delightful, very welcoming and helpful, and it was lovely to get in to a traditional room with charming service. The facilities were good, the room was spotless, and there was a nice breakfast, but my overriding memory is of... More

Pros * Futon beds were so comfortable we could not get out of bed in the mornings. * Indoor bath was such a treat after walking around/freezing in the snow * Loved the welcome tea and snacks served by a lovely lady in our room. * Clean * Walking distance to snow festival (not for small children) * Walking distance... This was our first ryokan experience in Japan and it turned out to be really pleasant. Upon arriving at the ryokan, the staff served us tea, some sweets and tiramisu (which was heavenly delicious! We bought 3 boxes of them after our stay and finished them in just 2 days!) It was located close to the Odori Park and was... More

My (Japanese) partner and I stayed at Nakamuraya for two nights. Considering the price (we payed about $130/night, including breakfast), we were very disappointed. My partner's immediate reaction was, "this is the kind of place we stayed in high school during sports tournaments". His second reaction was, "for westerners who have never stayed at a ryokan, this would be a... More

The room and the bathroom is fairly spacious. We stayed at japanese style room where where bath robe is available for our usage. I notice that several members mentioned that the room is dirty during their stay, but i guess the ryokan has improved. Our rooms, bathroom, and the bathrobe is clean and we enjoyed our stayed at this ryokan.... More

We stopped in Sapporo for 3 days and 2 nights, staying in Nakamuraya Ryokan. It's in a fairly convenient location - away from the bustle of the city but within walking distance. Everything was organised online through the inn's website prior to our arrival with no problems. The room was clean and, sizewise, was fine for 2 people and 2... More
