Rooms are really basic, but are clean and beds are comfortable. The hostel has a good communal area and most of the stuff speak English. Location is great, a stone throw away from the lakes and the park. My friends in the next room had problem with the hot water, which was resolved after two days.

Horrible rooms! Never seen that, and we have been travelling for 2 months in China, always sleeping in rooms in this same range of price, even cheaper ones. Located in a quiet corner of the city, this hostel had the feel of a budget hotel (I think it probably used to be one). The rooms were simple but spacious. Near the city center and the river...the location is excellent. Peaceful area. The rooms are comfortable and reasonable with the price. You won't find a luxury hostel, but you have all you need. The staff is helpful and they offered us some typical products during the stay! We recommend it!

We felt very much at home at 'This Old Place'. The room was comfortable and the location was very convenient. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and full of advice for travel in the area and further afield. We would definitely return to 'This Old Place' if we make it back to Guilin again in the future.
