The Good: The hotel is in an ideal location just a few minutes walk from the Nevesky Prospekt, the city's main street. It's just a minute from St. Isaac's Cathedral/Square and a very easy walk to the river, Hermitage, and Palace Square/Alexander Column. The staff is the hotel's best asset. They're all very eager to please, spoke wonderful English, and... More

On arrival the front entrance and staircase were very off putting. On entering the front door the hotel is on the third floor with no lift or anyone to help with luggage. The stair case was also very poorly lit and not in a very good state of repair. This was the only down side from our point of view.... More

It's difficult to fault Northern Lights - the location is great, just round the corner form the main sights but on a quiet street and the price, for Saint-Petersburg, is fair. The hotel's greatest asset, however, is its staff - a group of young people who are genuinely warm, welcoming and highly efficient. There is no doubt that I will... More

I feel awful to write this review mainly because the girls at reception (all of them) were so friendly, helpful and with great english skills. Great customer service. But... Front entrance and stairs (lots to go up with your bags) were in terrible state. Really bad, even scary. Horrible first impression. From the inside and rooms, everything looked really tired,... More

Dear Guests, We are sorry that you were not satisfied with your stay. At the time of your stay we had some temporary problems with water temperature, because of some renovation being conducted by the city authorities of St. Petersburg. We are sorry but we did not have control over this issue. Now it is solved. The staircase is not... More

This was my second stay at the Northern Lights. Very clean, safe, simple accommodations with a good eastern European breakfast and wonderful staff. Wonderful location, particularly with the newly opened Admiralty metro station. By no means a destination hotel, but perfect for the physically fit visitor (long, dim stairwell to the 3rd floor, no elevator) who will be spending most... More

We walked so much on this trip, because everything was so close to the Northen Lights. Can not fault the location, or the staff who were very helpful with all our requested for advice, where to eat, what to see, and warming cups of tea after walking in the snow. Room was large, warm and comfortable. No kettle for making... More

So pleased we found this place-it is friendly, centrally located and really good value. Having stayed in some pretty ropey places before in St Pete, I'll definitely be staying here again.

My family and I enjoyed our stay at Northern Lights. The location makes all the fuss with carrying luggage up to 3rd floor (which is not that bad, anyway) worth it. The staff is friendly and helpful and there is hardly anything they wouldn't assist you with. Breakfast is filling and they are flexible in what you can have each... More

We (my partner and me) stayed here for a week in January 2012 - turned out to be the ideal choice. Friendly staff, warm, comfortable and quiet. The location is excellent - walking distance to so many places. The idea of breakfast in bed seemed strange at first - but really worked. We will certainly return to St Petersburg -... More
