It is a nearly three hour trip from Puerto Maldonado to reach the Sandoval Lake lodge. First is a bus ride to the river jetty then a nearly one hour motorboat ride to the entry point to the lake lodge followed by a 3 km + trek through the Amazon jungle whereing gum boots. There is a path which is... More

Well our experience at lake Sandoval was truly something I will never forget. I guess I didn't really fully understand what it was. Let me explain... Lake Sandoval was the only resort located in the actual rainforest reserve area. All the others are on the outskirts and do day trips inside. Really people, you do not need to be sleeping... More

We stayed at the Sandoval Lake Lodge for 3 nights in January. For us. We did not find the hike in to be too bad, but rather, it added to the adventure. You have to consider where you are and what you are doing. It's definitely not the Four Seasons. But for a lodge in the middle of the wilderness,... More

Two nights at Sandoval Lodge were included in a recent group tour I and two friends were on. If a traveller is fairly fit, it is the most gorgeous spot. We were met at the Maldonado Airport, taken to the lodge's office in Puerto Maldonado where we could store luggage not needed and also were outfitted with rubber boots. This... More

I will start by acknowledging that this place is a little pricier than some alternatives, but it is well worth the extra cost. We booked with the Green Tambopata agency in Puerto Maldonado the day before we left for the jungle, and between the tour guide we booked through them and the accomodation here, our stay could not have been... This is a great place to come to experience the southern Peruvian Amazon; this is not a place to come if you want to experience luxury. Our room was basic but comfortable, and it had electricity for enough hours to be useful. The lounge/dining area was large and nicely set up, and the food was great. The animals, birds, insects,... The lodge has much going for it - the location, the wlid life and the guides. With a little effort the hotel itself could be greatly improved, especially when you consider the cost to stay. I think much has to do with the general manager and the front office manager who both seem dis interested and out of their depth.... More

The lodge is excellently located by the lake itself allowing early start of activity around the lake. The food is good, and the staff very friendly. The guides are also great. the lodge is basic, but that is what you expect in a place like that

We have just returned from an amazing trip to Peru and we took the option of going to the Amazon. We were advised to stay at Sandoval Lodge, but used Tripadvisor to look at other options where we discovered the Inkaterra Amazonica. We stayed there for 3 nights and had an amazing experience taking all their excursions, one of them being... We agree with most other reviews about the lodge but could only give this place an average to good recommendation. The lodge has a unique setting with much wildlife and good guides. Perhaps the arrival of the new generator (8 men to move it to the lodge in 2 days) should improve the electricity arrangements with the old one in... More
