Two bungalows were booked on October 18 2011 for our February 2012 five night family stay at the Barceló Montelimar. Upon our arrival on February fourth, the Reception staff told us that there were no bungalows available for the first night and we would have to stay in the main hotel section. As it turned out this was just as... More

We stayed at the Barceló Montelimar for 8 days and had an alright time. The resort offeres great landscape, multiple pools, private beach, hammocks, drinks, casino (horrible), buffet style food (not too bad) and an opportunity to dine at a restaurant (good) for an extra charge. They also rent ATV’s ($35 per hr) and some group excursions ($65 per person)... More

The beach, pool and grounds are beautiful. The entertainment is quite a distance from the bungalows. There is a shuttle service but it was sporadic at night, we waited for over 30 minutes one evening and just gave up. Entertainment announcements are pictures, changed daily, at the main dining area and the pool. There is no description of the entertainment... More

The trees, plants and flours in the resort are wonderful. The resort has one of the most awesome beaches we have seen in Nicaragua, a lot better than San Juan del Sur. The resort is not cheap, but that is not what you expect from such a higher class all inclusive resort. If you can afford to spend a few... More

The rooms in the main building were very pleasant, with great views. The cabanas also looked OK, but a bit older and darker inside. The front desk was helpful and friendly. Food was good, particularly breakfast and lunch (dinner a bit less so, but difficult to pinpoint why) - and quite varied for an all-in place. The place was pretty... More

We do not recommend anybody to stay at this hotel. Only one restaurant was open out of 3 advertised ! Evening entertainment was a very ugly joke. All inclusive is not the all inclusive that you get in other resorts. Our bungalow was dirty and unhealthy : broken wash-hand basin, destroyed tap, peeled bath-tub, mould on the wall of glass... Hotel was nice but NO ENGLISH, room was broken into, staff tried to pass conterfeit money to us, policica stopped us and wanted something, i.e. water, money, etc, very unsafe place for Americans - posters showing light skinned people were spray painted over, we lasted 44 hours and got the first plane out. We have traveled the world and the... More

Goregous hotel..fantastic beach..great entertainment..food was so-so, but bars feature premium alcohol and the swimming pool is gorgeous. However, compared to many other hotels I've been to in Nicaragua, this is not a true "Nicaraguan" experience, and the food was more of an Americanized Nicaraguan food. More

We went with our three young adult daughters ( in their 20's) just before New Year's eve. Since we had stayed at the Barcelo resort in Puerto Vallarta last year, we were looking forward to the same great food and amenities. We were very disappointed. The only extra restaurant was closed, so the only eating option was the buffet for... More

My wife and I stayed with our 10 and 12 year old daughters for a week over New Year's at Barcel Montelimar. We knew going in that Nicaragua's tourism industry is not yet completely developed, and that the resort might not be as fancy or well-established as other vacation spots in Central America and the Carribean. However, while not for... More
