3rd trip to the Maldives - definitely wanted the "no shoes, no news" experience, rather than spas and yoga, and got it on Velidhu. Excellent location, excellent service, excellent food, fantastic snorkelling (many we spoke to agreed it is one of the best house reefs in the Maldives). Diving centre staff excellent, and prices very reasonable. Will be going back.

This was our 12h trip to Maldives so we have seen many different resorts! Velidhu is a traditional resort; no swimming pool, one bar and one restaurant! Food is wonderful and varied, house wine is also very palatable! There is a smoking section and a non-smoking section! Bit strange for us as smoking is banned in all public areas in... More

We were SO glad to have looked at Trip Advisor before we booked this holiday as the suggestion of booking the beach chalet vs the chalets over the water was excellent. The beach chalets were much closer to the restaurant AND had their own area of 'private' beach with sun loungers associated with each beach chalet. When we arrived off... More

Visited for 11 nights in February/March 2012. Have been to 9 other Maldivian islands and this would be amongst my top 3 for overall experience. It is like the Maldives used to be in the earlier years before infinity pools and boutique hotels. One restaurant, one bar excellent reef and a quiet, calm atmosphere. For me, the better accommodation is the... More

This was not our first time in Maldives and after reading various positive reviews of Velidhu we expected it to be as good as previous visits. Unfortunately it was not. Short summary for those who do not want to read the whole text: good food; overcrowded island (on the beach you will feel like in Turkey or Egypt in big... More

I have just returned from my second visit to this island. It has proved as enjoyable as the first, which was a year ago. The bungalows are spacious with air conditioning and fan.Food is good and varied. Evening entertainment was low level which suited most people. The staff are helpful and friendly. The delights of the island are sun and sea.... More

We juste come back to this island and all i can say is that it's really a wonderful island. It's the first time we went to Maldives and we have traveled with Edelweiss (a direct flight and a really good company with good food, nice hostess). When we came to Male, we had to wait around 1 to take the... More

Just returned from 3 nights at Velidhu. It is so named since "Veli" means Sand and "dhu" means tongue in madivian. The island itself is shaped in the shape of a tongue. Thanks Paul for that bit of info. We arrived around 3 pm after a 20 minute transfer by sea plane and were meet by Paul who helped us... More

This was the third time my partner and I have stayed on Velidhu, having previously stayed in 2009 and 2007. There is an idyllic feel to the island which still retains something of the desert island feel - clothing requirements are minimal and shoes totally unneccesary! The sand is white and the sea is crystal clear and teeming with life;... More

Stayed there for 7 days, 2 days in beach bungalow, water villa afterwards (we received a free upgrade as honeymooners). We had a wedding ceremony there, which was simple but very well-organized. This is a cozy little island with a good house reef. We've seen stingrays, reef sharks, dolphins and squids while snorkeling, not to mention lots of different kinds... More
