My friend and I stayed here for a night on 16 April. The owner, Kato-san, was very helpful and hospitable. He met us at the train station and picked up our bags as we wanted to head off for sightseeing. Thereafter, he sent us to the Yurin onsen and picked us up after we were done again. All for free!... Visiting Nikko was a highlight of my trip to Japan, with my stay at Narusawa Lodge a part of that. Yuji is a fantastic host, and will do everything to make you feel welcome - he even drove a few of the guests (myself included) to a local onsen with it's own private forest in the evening, an experience I... I really enjoyed my stay at this place, and Yuji was very friendly and helpful. It felt like I was staying at a friend's place rather than at a hotel. They mention on the webpage that they will pick you up from the train station, but the staff went beyond that. We were given rides to an from the train... More

This is a wonderful minshuku, I stayed for 2 nights in September, and it was my favorite of the 3 Japanese style accommodations I used during my trip. The owner is wonderful, incredibly friendly and speaks enough english to communicate with people with very little Japanese. She'll pick you up from the train station if you arrange it ahead of... This minshuku a great place to stay!! It's a bit far away from the station but it takes less than 10 mins to get there and it's a nice walk. Otherwise, the owners are happy to pick you up from the station - they offered to drop us off the day we left, but we declined because we didn't have... More

This minshuku is a bargain for the price. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and I only regret we didn't stay longer. Nikko is a wonderful town and the mountain and the hiking areas are gorgeous. The room is pretty big with an air con that worked perfect. The futons were REALLY comfy! There is a fridge,... More

Good: 1. Hostess and host were very friendly, made you feel truly welcomed at their house, versus other ryokans we had been, in which they only want your money and can't wait for you to go away. 2. 10 mins walk to this nice outdoor onsen (hotspring) and it costs only 400 yen per person! Narusawa lets you bring their... More

Very charming place, but needs own state of mind. Doors usually are not locked, heating is not that great (but bed is still warm with all those blankets) and only shower means sometimes queuing. But gives good trip to soul of Japan, remembering Nikkos main attraction, great temples and shrines. Very friendly service by the owner and Bea-ta is nice... More

Narusawa Minshuku was a great, cozy place for me and my family (2 adults, one 3 year old) to stay. We stayed two nights. After substantial research into traditional, affordable, family-friendly Japanese places to stay in Nikko, I chose Narusawa. It was a good decision. Finding Narusawa Narusawa has a good English-language website (--), which made research straightforward. Physically, finding... More

The B&B is run by a delightful lady who converted her house into a B&B after her kids grew up and left home. She is very attentive and helpful (she insisted on driving us to the train station instead of just calling us a taxi). The room smelled more strongly of the tatami mats than some other places we stayed,... More
