We stayed there just for one nigh to see how is the japanese life in a ryokan. It's a littje bit surprising with tatami and futon... The ryokan is located at some distance from Hakone Yumoto Station but a bus (at Yen 100 per people) dropped you just in front of the ryokan. We have been very satisfied with the... More

It is a simple but nice ryokan. Do not expect luxuries. Very big however, with a lot of rooms, a good onsen and a big breakfast room. Room was huge and we enjoyed our stay there very much. It is not far from Hakone-machi station (walking 15 mins) but it is up in the hill, so if you are not... More

A traditional old rambling hotel. Looks a bit worn and tired, but does have character. The rooms are traditional old style with low table and bedding on floor - surprisingly comfortable - we slept very well having used some of the extra matressing to be found in room storage cupboard. Room has titami rush matting on floor, flat screen tv,... More

We spent 10 days vacation in Japan and this is the first Ryokan we've stayed in. We can't deny that the hotel is old but we can tell that we got great services. Its staff are very nice and friendly. In addition, the room is quite large. We really enjoy spending our time in this Ryokan. Breakfast is delicious.

We have lived in Tokyo for 10 months and this was the second Ryokan we've stayed in. The first was expensive and fabulous (Shiraume in Kyoto) and we decided to try a less expensive one and compare. We stayed in Shunkoso Ryokan in Nov 11 and found it less than perfect. It is shabby and worn and in dire need... More

I am guessing that when organising our 12-day trip to Japan, our group leader's guiding principles were "cheap and cheerful" and "reasonably authentic Japanese experience." The Shunkoso was our second ryokan. It's located up a steep hill, within reasonable walking distance of the local station (you can also travel from the station by bus). Our family room was a fair... I loved this place. It's very quaint! The Ryokan is about a 10 minute walk to Hakone Station (downhill). You can catch a bus up the hill for 100 rps outside the tourist info office next to the station. The Ryokan is old but has lots of character. The rooms are huge, clean and comfortable although the place does have... More

The ryokan was indecent, dirty, decadent and really expensive, we paid less at Hilton in Nagoya than here. During the night you can find big beatles trottelling in your room, the crew didn't wash the toilet that we find dirty as the previous guests left.

This traditional Japanese Ryokan is situated at about 15 minutes walk for Hakone station although there is a minibus that takes you there for 100 yen per person. Their staff speak a little bit of English, so it is not diffcult to communicate. We booked this Ryokan through Japanese Guest houses. They are a bit slow to get back to... More
