My wife and I stayed at this inn just months after the Tohoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami. We were both quite pleased with our stay at this inn. The primary host, a male, was exceptionally welcoming and hospitable, though very determined to ensure we wore the appropriate slippers at all times! He also spoke a fair amount of English, which... My husband and I traveled to Japan about 5 weeks after the tsunami/earthquake (we had already made all of our plans) and Kirinoya Ryokan was our first Japanese experience. The owner is very nice, and understands/speaks basic English. The ryokan is old and certainly shows signs of wear, but I found this to be part of the experience of staying... More

If you're looking for a western experience - this isn't your place; however if you want to dive into Japanese culture on limited time and budget - try Kirinoya. I couldn't sacrifice this chance of getting the feel of Japan while transiting with my 2yr old through Tokyo airport (just 24 hrs). The room: plenty of floor space to roll... More

We stayed at Kirinoya Ryocan on our first and last nights in Japan in late 2010. It was great! We were in Japan for the experience, and it was nice to be in a place so different than what we were used to (Canadians), but with just the right hospitality to make you feel at home and refreshed. I would... More

Very dirty, very old. A big dog rounds on in the all (that seems a garage!) and among the tables. The old bathrooms aren't equiped with western wc, but only japanese wc, very old and very dirty. Only the good thing is that the staff in very kind and willing. The ownerr's son drove us to the near shopping center,... More

We stayed for one night before we flew home from Narita. Not only does the town have some really lovely shrine buildings and winding streets, we found great food and all the souvenirs we needed! Kirinoya is really special - a family Ryokan with 400 years of history, full of photographs, samurai armour and swords and beautiful traditional tatami rooms.... More

We had a 24 hour layover, and did not feel like going into Tokyo as we had recently visited. This is the perfect thing to do in a short layover. You can walk to the temple and the little restauants and shops surrounding the temple, which was great fun. The owners are super nice, very helpful and accomodating, and will... More

Thought we would try at least one night in a Ryokan and ended up being sorry we did not stay more. Sleeping on the straw mat floor with a buckwheat pillow resulted in one of the best night sleeps we had in Japan. Owner was very friendly and helpful, even transferring us to and from the train station. Reviews did... More

I stayed here while in Narita and it was just what i was looking for. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, and only needed a place to sleep after touring the temples and shrines of Narita-San park. If you want a more traditional Japanese experience (tatami mat floors, and sleeping traditional Japanese style), I recommend this hotel... More

We stayed for one night between flights. I have stayed in many Japanese western style hotels on business and this provides a great alternative. The location was the deciding factor (being very close to Narita-san Temple and the gardens), but the friendliness and service is what makes it enjoyable. Kirinoya is a family run business and Katsumata-san is very friendly,... More
