Sumiyoshiya is the first place I've booked with not much information apart from Trip Advisor, and I'm happy to say that the excellent reviews are entirely accurate. I was very sorry that I could only stay one night! The family who run the ryokan, especially Mie-san, are so, so friendly. Changed into slippers and was shown through the beautiful old... More

Thank you for your staying, and thanks for the compliment. When you stayed at our ryokan,Kanazawa's cherry blossoms were vest view time. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed at Kanazawa. Our ryokan is little bit slightly displaced from station. However, It is convenient that our ryokan close to Kenrokuen garden and Omi-cho Market. We are looking forward to... More

This is a friendly ryokan where we had a traditional Japanese room. It has a good location for the Kenruko-en garden and the city center. The Japanese breakfast was good and the common bath was nice as well. We could park our car in front of the ryokan.

Thank you for your staying, and thanks for the compliment. When you stayed at our ryokan,it was quiet day. So, we could upgrade your room. Unfortunately, when you stayed, weather was bad.... Even so, we hope that you had enjoyed at Kanazawa. We recommend winter season in Kanazawa. Because, Seafood is delicious and Kenrokuen Garden covered with snow is beautiful. We... More

My husband and I went to Kanazawa in late March 2012. The entire Sumi Family welcomed us very warmly, and provided impressive services with great smiles. They also upgraded our room to the one with bathroom (we booked a room with no bathrooms), which was very, very, clean and comfortable. I would love to go back to Kanazawa just to... More

We wanted to stay in a ryokan and chose the Sumiyoshiya for our three-night stay in Kanazawa. We could not have been happier. Mie Sumi, who runs the inn, was very helpful by email before our trip, including getting reservations at various attractions and arranging for a car and English-speaking driver for a day trip to Takayama and Shirakawa, and... This hotel would have us coming back to Kanazawa. The wonderful young female owner upgraded us to a 17 tatami room (3 rooms + bathroom) and took good care of us after traveling by train from Kyoto. Our room also had a very funny Tanuki in the bathroom which was very cool. If we went back we would definitely pay... More

The buildings is old and might little bit inconvenience. However, we try to keep cleanliness in the future. It would give me great pleasure that our guest enjoy Ryokan. we look forward to... More

I drove here from Kyoto, and it was such a welcome end to the day! They have free parking available just around the corner from the ryokan, so be sure to let them know if you have a car when you book. The room was excellent - quite large by Japanese standards and I had a private toilet and wash... More

We splurged and chose the largest tatami room (17 mats) and that was a great decision. The smaller rooms look nice too, but to have such huge space, as the 17 mat room gives you, makes you feel like having temporarily slipped into feudal Japan. today's Japan doesn't offer space in hotel rooms anymore - or shall we say affordable... It was our first time staying in a ryokan and we totally enjoyed the experience. Note that if you have a valid JR pass, you can take the bus from bus bay #4 and stop at the second stop (stage 1 fare) at omicho market. From there, it is a short walk to the ryokan. We arrived early and were... More

Very nice, clean, and spacious Japanese ryoken. Good location - short walk to the main fish market. Highly recommended. Good value for money (For Japan, which is relatively expensive).

Thank you for making my stay so pleasant and easy. I enjoyed the meals and that you let me out at 4 am to take photos. It was very kind of you to lend me a bicycle too. I slept well and enjoyed the Japanese bathing experience. Can thoroughly recommend visiting you at Kanazawa. Dianne
