We came to love Japanese hotels. This one was especially nice, the room was spacious, and the public bath really a great treat after a day's sightseeing. Check the web site for directions from the train station - it's not too far a far walk, near an old pagoda. More

I stayed for 2 nights at Ryokan Asunaro with my 12 year old daughter in April 2011, during the Spring Festival. It is a big guesthouse, with many rooms on each floor, but it was quiet and easy to relax in. Our room was large and comfortable, the staff were kind and helpful and the breakfasts were delicious! We also... More

I'm really surprised by the negative reviews for this ryokan. This was the nicest place I stayed in my trip to Japan. The room was spacious and light, the bathroom was fine, the staff were all friendly and helpful and the free internet in reception was a bonus (especially as there was a general election in the UK when I... Conviently located near Takayama Station and the center of the city. (Withing walking distance from many of Takayama's charming sights.) Homey atmosphere. Deliscious meals are both beautiful and filling. I'd definitely stay there again. More

We had a very enjoyable 2 nights stay at Ryokan Asunaro. The directions from the station given to us were very easy to follow. We were greeted warmly by the owner upon arrival. The ryokan was very busy but this did not affect the service. We enjoyed our evening meal immensely, though we struggled sitting cross-legged for the meal -... More

bad part of the city, which is disappointing enough - all the fabulous pics i saw before appeared to be from a street and a half, also the ryokan itself produces beautiful pictures which fools you about the surrounding and shows beautiful entrance to sort of industrial building from metal and concrete elements located between two huge bus parkings. But... More

I was concerned how the place will be after reading some of the review here, but we went during the spring festival and had problem finding a place, so we took it as it is. But, we are very pleasantly surprised! The room was HUGE - it had a bedroom and a living room parts, tea, heating, a space next... More

weather was quite cold for the time of year but the welcome was very warm. Room was typical tatami mats etc and meals were taken in a private dining room which was very nice. All the facilities were on offer, internet, TV and the hot bath which was excellent. Noone in when we went so had the bath to ourself.... More

On our two weeks tour around Japan we decided to stay once at a ryokan and booked in advance for two nights incl breakfast and dinner. We hoped for a genuine japanese experience. Although high season, the ryokan seemed to us to be empty on the first night: we were the only one at the onsen and did not see... More

The friendly english speaking staff was a nice welcome to our stay in Takayama. This is an older ryokan with the necessary modern ammenities. Our room was quite big and we had western style bathroom. I especially liked that the rooms were smoke free and they had free computer internet. The food was amazing as they used local ingredients for... More
