I've been to Tanzania before my most recent trip, and my visit was the best ever largely in part of my experience at Ujamaa! I met some of the most amazing people while staying at this home away from home! The staff is not only helpful and welcoming, but they truly become family by the time you say goodbye. Carley... More

The hostel is in walking distance from one of the most turistic parts of Arusha, meaning banks, shops, restaurant and touts on the reach of the hand. Hostel itself has home-like ambience, hosts mostly long term backpackers and biggest plus is that it has very nice staff and guests. Dont expect luxury, it has shared bathrooms, but all in all... Located right in the heart of Arusha, Ujamaa is the friendliest and best-equipped hostel I've ever stayed in. With a beautiful view of Mount Meru, it's safe, homely and Seraphina and the girls create the tastiest food. I stayed for seven week and volunteered at Dymphna Special School, which was the experience of a lifetime and I can't wait to... More

I've been coming back to Ujamaa hostel for a number of years and wouldn't stay anywhere else in Arusha! Its a great, friendly and fun enviroment, food is awesome, the staff are fantastic and the whole experience is brilliant! Its the best way to volunteer abroad and allows you to get volunteer experience without paying extortionate rates. Couldn't recommend it... More

We had a great time at the Ujamaa recently, staying there as volunteers on our first trip to beautiful Tanzania. The hostel is comfortable and well-equipped, with a gorgeous garden and views of Mt Meru. The food is good and plentiful and we were looked after amazingly by the lovely girls who work there and sing all day long! An excellent hostel, ideally located close to the city, with friendly staff, delicious food and comfy beds-with mosi nets. And for those seeking something more, fantastic links to volunteer projects, that really do make a difference! Asante.

I must shamelessly praise the Ujamaa Volunteer Hostel in Arusha, Tanzania for their incredible hospitality, cleanliness, and connectedness to the community. I am a part of a volunteer group with The Juilliard School in NYC that, for the last three years, has come to Arusha for extensive stays. Owners Carley and Gasper have a very visible presence and nail the... More

I have fortunate to have traveled to the Arusha area five times. Ujamaa has much to offer and I highly recommend it. The location is optimal, as it is an easy walk to town. Carley and Gasper know all there is to know about the area from volunteering experiences to site seeing, local restaurants and nite spots. Carley is a... More
