Picked Matahari mainly due to the LP listing. I was intrigued to see they organise a daily afternoon tea, which their website also mentions. Sadly didn't happen while we were there. Location is stunning, 10 mins walk from end of monkey forest road. 25 mins to forest itself, but a pleasant walk. Rooms look great, but all smell of stale... More

Sadly this was not the highlight of our trip. Rooms need to be better cleaned. Very noisy

I LOVED it here!! I thought the staff was incredibly friendly. The location is great! Quite quiet compared to other streets. I got bit by a monkey at Monkey Forest (ug!) and the staff actually drove me to a clinic, waited with me and took me back. Absolutely amazing!! I would highly recommend it. Some rooms are definitely better then... More

I stayed here back in 2009, since then its under new ownership/management and it shows. The little things that I enjoyed and shared with friends back home have been removed. The original rooms are poorly kept and the owner has expanded. The expansion offers bigger revamped rooms and are preferable but theres a lot to choose from in Ubud. Once... More

Matahari was ok. It has a really nice pool and some interesting rooms although some things are falling apart a little or in disrepair. Staff are nice and you can make youself tea or coffee all through the day. Breakfast included a book library also. Reasonable prices I paid 300,000 in low season for a spacey bungalow with an interesting... More

What a great place! It's located in a smaller street a bit set back from the main road, so it's quiet but only minutes away from the center of town. Conveniently, there is a great western style cafe at the corner – Bali Buddha – as well as a nice book shop. My enquieries via emails very dealt with very... More

My wife and I spent five nights here and were very disappointed. Having arrived quite late, we were shown to our room by a helpful worker, who neither told us when breakfast was, where it was, or left us with a key. Within minutes (and I exaggerate not) of the door closing, a cockroach crawled across our inside window. By... More

I`m very disapointed, disapointed to stay in this hotel. The personnal need a triple confirmation to pickup you in bali (but you paid 22$ for this service). It's not a calm place, you have sound of the hammer for breakfast and all the day. The price is very expensive (50$ on website but 60$ when you book). This hotel is... More

Online booking, double confirmation on air port pickup and it still didn't work. The latter was simply forgotten, and the first, advance booking, let me think to find a prepared clean room. But unfortunately the bath was dirty, the bedding and mosquito net torn, and no light sufficient for reading. The setting is nice, some staffs also. But there is... More

I guess it is an open air environment but having a rat in our room two nights in a row was not cool. Matahari was recently listed in Lonely Planet so they are building in every corner of the property. The sound of the hammer echoed in our room for the duration of our stay. I think the growth has...
