I came with train and got picked up by the guesthouse. No extra charge, that was really good because otherwise it's hard to find the place. Once you are there no problem to navigate back if you can find the burning ghat. The guesthouse is quite noisy, the rooms are built around an open space which goes up all the... More

Myself and a friend stayed here during Diwali 2012. The initial reservation was made for Pooja Guest House. However, they had overbooked and so Gaurav from Pooja took us to this place. Sankatha is found in the narrow streets in the old part of Varanasi. It is difficult to find without the help of locals. Kids are often willing to... More

The top roof restaurant is our favourite in Varansi. Delicious as home made. Always nice and gentle staff. The view is magnific. The river Ganges flows slowly in moon light. The athmospher is lika a dream with the burning ghat in a very close area. You can easily get an overview of the ghats south from Sankatha Guesthouse while waiting... More

I arrived from Delhi at 7am in the morning. I was asked to wait until 12pm for other guests to check out (which is absolutely fine), however it got to 1.30pm and no room had materialized, so I asked the manager who told me that unfortunately the room that I had booked and paid for was not available. He suggested... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and the hotel was comfortable and in a great location - if you want to be amongst the action. The manager (older gentleman) took us sightseeing (which was fine). He was then asking us about our plans and when he heard we were moving on the next day advised us to go to Allahabad... More

This guest house is in the heart of old town in a perfect location. Varanasi can be a maze but if you walk along the river it is easy to navigate. Sankatha Guest House is only 200m away from the main burning ghat (Manikarnika Ghat) and Ganges river. All attractions are within close walking distance. The burning Ghat at night... More

One of the reviews says "cosy", but in our experience this hotel was anything but cosy: cold bare-walled rooms, very loud latches in doors (yes, latches with padlocks rather than locks), openings in the bathroom which make it possible to hear what's happening in the neighbouring bathroom. Also, internet is switched off for the night – something that the hotel... More

Very well located close to the main burning ghat (Manikarnika Ghat) - this makes it a great place to wander and soak in the atmosphere of Varanasi - once you have learned to deal with the ever-persistent touts. The hotel staff are helpful in that respect, and in providing useful information more generally. The manager is a little reserved, but... More

The location of this hostel is quite good. At night you're not that far from the main ghat and you're 200m away from the bruning ghat. Both are nice places to chill at night. There are some small shops right next to it if you need toilet paper, soap and such. Food is at hand as well but I'd recommend... More

After our train was delayed by 7 hours we were nicely surprised to find someone from the hotel still waiting for us to pick us up! We welcome you to a quiet, comfortable, homely atmosphere, and hope you enjoy your stay with us. This budget accommodation in Varanasi offers fine facilities. 21 rooms all with attached bath, some with air condition. We are at the main heart of the city, absolute bank of the river Ganges, so any place and every spot is easily reachable. 'MANIKARNIKA GHAT' is famous for Burning Ghat, where Hindus burn body after death. At last but not least our services are exclusively traditional. We believe our guest as God in disguise. Situated in the heart of the ancient Varanasi close to the Golden temple and Burning Ghat. Walking distance from Main Ghat and Main Market. 30 minutes from Railway Station/Bus Stop, Airline Offices, 1 Hour from Varanasi Airport. If you desire to spend less for a comfortable stay, still live in privacy, style, luxury and elegance, with very simple but very comfortable and immaculately clean rooms, with/without attached baths/showers, running hot and cold water, western style toilets then this is it!! We have a little sitting arrangement for our guests where they come sit, share their stories, plan for the next day, drink and dine and have a whole lot of fun together. ... more   less
