Dr Rao and Anne were great hosts. Breakfasts were fabulous. The Egyptian Room was very comfortable. Make sure you arrive at The Tryst in daylight so that you can take in the wonderful scenery. Dr Rao took us on a late afternoon walk and we heard a bird called 'the whistling schoolboy'. Magic.

We stayed in the tryst on 28 and 29th April, Its a cool place, surrounded only by greenery and the soothing music by variety of birds, all along one can only see flowers or the lush green tree garden. The owner, Dr Rao took personal interest in our comfortable stay, took us for a long walk. There was no chance... More

Just got back from a very relaxing long weekend at the Tryst with some friends. I have been going to the Tryst during the Easter break for several years now, and the place never ceases to work its magic. The bungalow and the lawns are beautifully maintained and the Tryst is an ideal place to relax and de-stress The Egyptian... More

An ideal place for a son and aging mother on a 4 day break. The " Doc " and Ann were great hosts and kept us informed, amused , occupied and well-fed the whole time. The roulette evening will be a constant memory. Lovely walks through tea plantations on the doorstep - now able to identify leopard, bear and porcupine droppings with... More

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights, in this place, about a mile out of Coonoor amongst small villages and teaplantations. We enjoyed breakfasts in the well-maintained gardens (while tea-pickers worked just above us) and drinks/dinner in the conservatory / dining room (where the owners were welcoming and full of information on the local area: flora, fauna, social issues,... Reading some of the other reviews on here i do wonder if we went to the same place! The "Doc" was a magnificent host who looked after ourselves and our young kids wonderully well. Food excellent, staff great. Rooms were quirky and fun. This is likely not for everybody but if you have a sense of humour and spend some... More

I have seldom encountered such strange hosts and wonder why they would even open their home to travellers, as they clearly have no interest in them. Dr Rao is an extremely pretentious Indian doctor and his wife is from Liverpool, where they spend several months of the year in what she calls a 'static home'. Dr R's books are on... More

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tryst homestay and even extended it by an extra night instead of a planned night in Ooty. We were looking for somewhere to relax in the midst of nature and that is exactly what we got. We loved our Egyptian themed room, had some great walks in the tea gardens (we even encountered... More
