Hotel Suraj is one of the most hospitable accommodations I experienced while in India for 3 months. My friend and I were lost wandering the old streets of Jaisalmer in the sand castle fort when we came across it and met the exceptionally welcoming manager Chimmy. He invited us up to the roof top patio where we could overlook the... More

I was really excited to stay at hotel Surja. The pictures looked lovely and my sister and I really enjoyed our first nights stay, however we moved chose to move on after a two nights. The room we had was right in the walls of the fort with a little window seat that you could gaze out at the moon... More

There are two hotel in the fort named Hotel Suraj and Haveli Suraj. they are very near to the Jain temple. both are made out of ancient havelis, both the hotels are ok to stay, They will try to sell the camel safari/camp safari, but I preferred the one out side the fort gate, Sahara and Trotters, they are really... I was a little apprehensive reading some of the less than positive reviews - this was to be my first hotel in India, and one I actually booked by mistake thinking it was a similarly named hotel. However, my worries were quashed when I arrived. The location is excellent, land the building is indeed beautiful. Very atmospheric, and gives a... More

Although room was small it was clean and tidy and the hotel was very good. Food excellent - breakfast, snacks and dinners. Great roof terrace and although next to the Jain temples, not noisy. Short walk to the monuments. Staff very good and the camel safari they organized was excellent - dinner under the stars and the dunes we were... More

In a 500 year old haveli. The staff was quite friendly, and did not push any camel safaris on me. The place was oozing with character and would be an excellent place for couples. Unfortunately no rooftop restaurant to meet other travelers, but I don't blame the owners for not having one. The room I stayed in was excellently decorated... More

after checking the reviews i wanted to check in this hotel but could not coz of lazy and unresponsive attitude of the hotel management. I had called the person named Chimmy and wanted to book 2 rooms and he was not sounding friendly. he asked me to drop the email. I did the same. send him email and then waited... More

This was a gorgeous room tucked into the Fort, a good size and beautifully decorated. However the toilet didn’t flush and there was no hot water. We asked for towels but had to go and collect them ourselves as they never turned up. The room was quiet and private and we were able to sleep with the shutters open. The... More

We read a lot about not staying "in the fort" but decided that Suraj sounded like our kind of place. We have no regrets overall it was a positive part of our holiday. Having read some of the comments on trip advisor we are a little surprised we certainly did not experience many of the negatives mentioned. We found Chimmy... More
