We wanted to spent a weekend in Thekkady, as usual most of the hotels are full or overcharging, then one of our friend working with ICICI referred Harithavanam, it just 13 to 14kms from Thekkady in Vandiperiyar. This is no frill place and looks like a typical farmers property in this part of the world. Located in the banks of Periyar river, it got almost all the seasonal spices, fruits and vegetables famous in the region are available on the property itself. Even the drive from Vandiperiyar to the resort through the tea garden itself is a nice experience.

Food was one of the best things in Harithavanam, prepared by ‘achayan’ and ‘ammichi’(our cooks), one of the best I had recently. Everything they prepared was so tastee. Beef stew was the best thing. And they had a very very special item in the menu. ‘pazham kanji’, I ordered the same for my second day breakfast – pazham kanji normally served in the morning in kerala- it prepared by socking the last night’s boiled rice in... “An authentic experience of a farmer's lifestyle...”

An ideal weekend getaway, getting there (driving down) is in itself a pleasure. The fresh whiff of nature and sights of greenery around welcomes you to this beautiful resort in the woods. It's a private place, perfect to get together with your close buddies, family friends or just family. You get a first hand experience of a farmer, with fruit plantations and vegetable farming that is as fresh and organic as it can get. The food is excellent - traditional Kerala cuisine that you can never have enough of! By the river side, the fishing and river trekking experience was fantastic. The special campfire, where the fresh fish caught was cooked the tribal way, is something that I would cherish a lifetime. Highly recommended...If you're going to Thekkady, Kerala, don't forget to stay a day or 2 at the Harithavanam Farmer Resort!! More
