“Lovely place”

We stayed in this guesthouse by default as the place we booked next door was full and we were put in the Kairali Palace instead. But it turned out to be great. A large, clean, well decorated room with atmosphere, TV, large bathroom, lots of hot water. Outside the room there was a balcony and a wonderful private seating area. Just 5 minutes walk from nice eating places, the bus station and the town. The family did not speak much English but were very pleasant. Food was not available during our stay but it is brunch in town is good after an early morning explore in Periyar park. More

“Lovely house and your own terrace”

We found Kairali Palace a delightful place to stay. It is a lovely architect-designed building in the distinctive dark wood style of Keralan houses. The en suite bedrooms are spacious and clean, and the upstairs rooms have private terraces with seats and a table - a perfect place to read and relax. From the terrace, we saw black monkeys, colourful birds and thousands of fruit bats as they flew over every night.

Kairali Palace is in a quiet lane but only two minutes' walk from restaurants and shops and less than ten minutes' walk to Kumily (for the bus stand). The Periyar Reserve is close by.

We have stayed at Kairali Palace twice and have very fond memories of it. Sarah and her family are perfect hosts - very friendly, helpful and welcoming but not intrusive. More
