Our stay with the Kuruvinakunnel family at their 4th generation rubber-plantation etstate was a special experience. The original house was well over a hundred years old but had been replaced by a modern house a few years ago. However some elements of the original had been retained and the new house was built along traditional lines,which is a Naalukettu design, house with an open courtyard. The overall feeling was airy and cool and there were beautiful gardens and a pool surrounding us.Frequent power cuts stopped the air-conditining in our room but an effective back-up system at the house kept the fan and lights going.
One highlight of our stay was the fantastic food prepared by Mrs Kuruvinakunnel and her cook. There was an endless variety of delicious dishes, most made from fruit and vegetables organically grown on the estate.
