I really enjoyed my stay at Casa Viena, the girls managing the place now are super nice and very helpful for any queries one has. The hostel is well situated close to the old town and in a vibrant neighborhood of its own. They supply safety boxes, wifi, kitchen facilities and a hangout space. All compact, but tidy and well... We stayed at Casa Viena as we had read good reviews on it online. This place is owned by an Austrian but he no longer manages it and I believe is looking to sell it. Either way he needs to dispose of his manager ASAP. The place is filthy dirty and disgusting. We booked a private room with private bathroom.... More

This basic backpackers retreat will get you close to every and anyting in Cartagena. Don't expect the Marriott with all the trimmings, but you will get a local feel in the heart Getsemani. The place is safe and around the corner from the Castilo de San Felipe. Just a short walk is the Old Quarters and the historical walled city... More

I picked this because the Lonely Planet recommended it as the owner should be a good source of information on the Darien crossing. When I came I was told that the owner was not there, that in fact he only visits two to three times a year and has another hostel in another city. Nobody knew anymore about the Darien... More

Casa Viena is very well located (even though Getsemani is a bit run down), is great value and a fantastic spot to meet backpackers (loads of German speaking folk). They have private rooms or dorms and I'd say the only issue is noise as it is tight quarters.

Nice variety of options regarding rooms. The dorm room is average but secure. The single and or 2-3 rooms are really nice. The whole place is vibrant with color and culture. They run a tight ship regarding security. I even left some things there when I went to Santa Marta and came back and everything was there where the desk... More

I haven´t booked any hostel in Cartagena and on my arrival I had to walk around the Getsemani area and the Media Luna street to find a suitable place to stay. My first impression of Casa Viena was about the people who work there, they r really friendly, willing to help and give an advice. Unfortunately there was no individual... More

PROS: We stayed here for 6 nights and thought it was good value. Although no longer owned by Hans (who now runs Casa Viena in Villa de Leyva) - we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Contrary to the last review - we found the cleaner Soraya to be friendly also and despite being busy took the... More

I have had the unfortunate experience of watching casa viena go downhill the last 5 years. I came here in 2008 and back then the hostel was amazing with a very friendly staff that associated with their guests and truly enjoyed their job. That staff isnt here anymore. Ana and Leidis work during the day, they are nice, but care... More

I did not like my stay here. The rooms are pretty shabby and old. There is a common area but it is not inviting you to hang out there. There is simply no atmosphere in this house. The staff is willing to help you if you ask for it, but there is no special "presence" - which you can experience... More
