this is the kind of hotel I had expected in China, old, grey, falling apart and with no service to speak of but this was our last hotel in a 21 days trip and the first to be like that, so now I was not actually going to be just satisfied with this as I knew now that China had... More

this was once a grand hotel, but lack of maintenace has taken its toll, the fees are double that of nearby hotels even though the service and breakfast are wonderful, the hotel is in such disrepair we had to change rooms 3 times to get everything working, even then the drain in shower was broken and water ran onto the... We were there only for one night and arrived in the early morning by the Beijing train: that is the best point for this hotel... it's situated right in front of the Datong Railway Station. The employee did not speak english. We had to ask a taxi searching for clients to translate for us. Check in was complicated and Check... More

We stayed at this hotel as we needed to extend our visas but did not know at the time the renovations that were going on. They started drilling at 6.15 am and continued all day until 8 PM (or at least the parts we were in the hotel for). As we did not have our passports we could not change... More

This was a good hotel. A bit on the expensive side for china but there didn't seem to be many good value ones in Datong. If your coming by train just walk out the station look north east and you should be staring at it. If your coming to Datong for the culture your most likely to be visiting the... More

I stayed there from May 9 to May 12. The hotel is just 100 meters southeast of the railway station. I liked the hospital staff there. The room are cosy. And there is charged internet. I enjoyed the free breakfast particularly. You have a great deal of choices because there were various kinds of food, western and traditional Chinese food.

This hotel appears to think it's a top-class business hotel, but in reality the staff don't appear to have a clue what they're doing, the beds are even more rock-hard than in most Chinese hotels, and you get about an eighth of a normal roll of toilet paper per night. The staff will give you more toilet roll if you... More

A solid 3 stars (for China, that is) for this property. Conveniently located across from train station, which is ~3 miles from the center of the city. Since most westerners go to Datong only to see the Hanging Temple and the Yungang Grottoes, that is not a negative. Tour groups stay at this hotel, so they have some western foods... More
