This hotel is an absolute disappointment, definitely no 5 star level. Old, smelly rooms with dirty carpets, almost no English speaking staff, loud karaoke singing well after midnight, several phone calls by prostitutes.

We stayed there on a very good value coach+hotel package from Hong Kong. Breakfast not included. Was impressed by the huge and elegant lobby. Non-smoking room was really free of cigarette odor. Stayed in a standard room. Good-sized, firm bed, decent shower. Bathroom was well appointed. Carpet and furnishings were worn and stained. Situated next to maintenance room...could hear everything in next room and out in hall. Colleagues stayed in western, non-smoking room...much better condition. Not a bad choice...will ask for western room next trip.

I'm giving this place 5 stars because I don't think there's a better hotel in Shantou. I probably couldn't have wanted more in a hotel, given my location, so by default it was perfect.
