I stayed 4 days recently and I think it was just OK. Pros: good location, good ocean view especially from the restaurant, clean rooms and bathrooms. Cons: looks old, breakfast is basic, nothing special. If you want it just for sleeping and taking a shower while touring the city most of the time, like I did, it’s OK.

The restaurant in the Hotel Gavina is worth spending an evening enjoying a Pisco Sour, a fine dinner, and a terrific view of the shoreline of Iquique. We enjoyed one dinner here; the food was excellent, the service was fine, and the location was superb. The view is best during high tide.
